I like Marvin's overall versatility and size.  He would be a great 3/4 off the bench.  His contract has 3 more years (after this one) for around 23 million, so he isn't cheap, but I think he would help the Celtics a lot this year.

JO for Marvin works on trade machine and would save the Hawks a bunch of money long term so they very well might take that offer.  Given JO's uncertainty this year, I'd rather have the safer option.  Though it would likely mean Davis is gone at the end of the year, so perhaps the C's could then look to move him somewhere else.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

If JON for Marvin were on the table I would take it and run.
“Being a Celtic is, every decision you make is about the team. Every cut you make is about the team. Every pass you make is about the team. You take yourself out of it. It’s not for everyone. If you don’t want to win, don’t want to play team basketball, and it’s more about you then you’re probably not a Celtic." Doc 2010

Why would the Hawks do this?... Why would anyone trade for JO right now?

No -- I wouldn't give up the 2012 flexibility over a sixth man.

I do like Marvin Williams though. Very solid role player.

Can somebody break down what kind of cap flexibility we will potentially have in 2012?

Under the current CBA, and if no players are on the books other than Rondo and Pierce:

$35,149,855

So then feasibly we could get one max contract guy and fillers

Resign KG, grab Dwight Howard and then a fill in the holes.  ;)

Hawks want to move Marvin to get his contract off the books.  I'd even be willing to throw in a draft pick or cash.
