I'll admit that I haven't seen a ton of Knicks games but from what I have seen I'm not all that impressed with Fields. I see him as a pretty good 2 way player who hustles and does the little things, a little it of everything but isn't spectacular. I definitely don't think he has "star" potential. He kind of reminds me of Courtney Lee his rookie year. I see his ceiling being a Battier which is fine and all but if the Knicks preferred to keep him over Galo or Chandler I think thats just silly

IMO he has high basketball IQ he's a great rebounder for his position can hit the 3 and decent defender, but I wouldn't have traded Chandler because he was their best defender

Good defender on wings.  Exceptional footwork and positioning to deny driving angles.

Great rebounder.

Versatile.  Can hit the 3, can drive a little, handle, pass.  Makes good decisions.  Clever finisher too.

His lack of athleticism does limit him to supporting work, but he's smart enough to stick to what he does best.

I think he's a much better choice to complement Anthony, Amare and Billups than Gallinari or Chandler.  Fills in more cracks.

That makes sense about complementing Anthony, but if I could I would have switched him with Chandler and Gallinari. I'd go with value since the Knicks don't have a prayer of doing much this year anyway and could use one of those guys as an asset later on

Comparing Landry Fields to Shane Battier is very accurate IMO...but Battier at his peak is probably a better wing defender than Landy Fields will ever be, if only because he's got a lower ceiling athletically.

Quick synopsis on Fields: A bulky 6'7, was a power forward @ stanford where he was the primary scorer. Quicker than the PF's that tried to guard him but stronger than the SF's, he was the best player Stanford had out there last year. People though questioned where he fit in as a NBA prospect because he didn't look like he was built athletically for the wing, and he didnt have the bulk for the 4.

Wowed people during the summer league and D'Antoni loved him right away because he never forces anything. He lets the game come to him, and that's one of his biggest assets. He isn't on LeBron James's level or anything as a passer, but he makes good smart passes (lots of basketball nerds have been recently raving about his entry passes to Amar'e Stoudemire..Kelly Dwyer even went so far as to say he'd never seen anyone at any level do it as well). He's not on Ray Allen's level as a shooter or anything, but he's good enough to hit open shots when he has them, or put the ball on the floor and draw a foul when he needs to. He's not on Tony Allen or Aaron Afflalo's level as a man defender on the perimeter (case in point, Ray Allen lit him up...Fields couldn't get through those screens to save his life), but he plays good team defense, he's long, and he doesn't give up on plays.

He's never going to be an All-Star..but as far as a guy you want to have around, I'd compare him a lot of Shane Battier. A humble kid who wants to play his heart out and is content to let the game come to him. Not the lockerroom leader Battier is, but even that might come eventually.

Awsome summary IndeedProceed, TP. Personally, I love the kid. I think, as snively pointed out, he is a perfect compliment to two guys who will want the ball alot in Melo and Stoudemire. The combination of Billups and Fields in the backcourt, makes for a very well rounded and very "heady" backcourt combination.

If it were my choice between keeping Chandler or Fields, I would have chosen Fields without hesitation.

He's the ultiamte team player who can hurt you without the ball in his hands. I love players like that.

Thanks..I'm a big fan of Fields too. Considering that Amar'e, Anthony, and Billups are all possibly 18+ points scorers, a 'less is more' team first guy is an ideal pairing.

Landry Fields is also extremely cheap, and is thus an amazing value player.  470k as opposed to Gallo's 3.3 mil and Chandler's 2.1 mil.  And the kid can play.  A draft pick that every team wishes they hadnt missed.  Id rather have him than Avery.
