From Chris Mannix's Twitter via HoopsHype:

Quote
Pacers will not buyout James Posey, source says. Scratch him off the list of potential free agent pickups for contenders.
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.

Good. He's done. There's much better options out there. This isn't the Posey of 3 years ago.

Why would Posey agree to a buyout? He's owed another $7.5 million next year. He wouldn't even get half that as a FA next year.

These buyout rumors are ridiculous.

well, we can still trade for him if we really want to. There are much better options however.

Indiana has always resisted doing buyouts.  How many years did Bird mail paychecks to Jamaal Tinsley at his house before they finally bought him out?

Indiana would like to make a push for the last playoff spot this season.  I don't think anyone there is thinking they can make it past the first round, but there's a buzz in the post-O'Brien Pacers.  Seems like attendance is up.  They aren't going to throw away players just to throw them away, they'd like to create a little excitement and get some people to come to the games.

Yes if he didn't want that money he would've just signed our contract originally instead.

What about sending JO over to retire in exchange?  Posey is no longer capable of being our 6th guy but there's no doubt he could still help us out.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

He is getting long in the tooth.   I think he is in decline but so is some of our team to be honest.   Both still have a lot of good ball of ahead of them though.

Why would they trade a guy who CAN play for a guy who can't?  They aren't going to buy out Posey and there's no reason for JO to retire with another year of the MLE due to him.

The more realistic trade, I think, is Quis for Dahntay Jones (it's my bink for the day).  That would save Indiana two years
of paying Jones (about $6M total) and open up a little more cap space for them.  They're playing Jones now that O'bie is gone, but they could give his minutes to Posey and not lose too much in production.  Danny wouldn't want to be paying Jones $2.9M in 2013, but it's not a contract that's so large that it's really going to keep us from doing anything.

While I agree with the latter part of your statement, I don't know if there are a lot of better options out there that don't require us giving up players we don't want to give up.

Still, no shot that Posey gets bought out, as others have stated, makes no sense.  It's the same reason I don't see Rip leaving either.  He'll have to leave to much money on the table.

Well, to quibble a little Rip would likely still command something like a 2/$10M contract, if he was a free agent next summer.  Maybe not full MLE, maybe not a lot of years, but something like that.

Posey, he's probably an LLE player at this point.  He's less likely to make back any dollars he gives up in a buyout.

lol in a heartbeat... ha right. greatest player of all time... next to Luke Walton... kidding.
But I hate to see Posey buried on the Pacer bench but he can be a good key for them in the development of the young guys they have.

Would have liked posey but if we could get RIP or Battier or even Parker I don't think it's a big deal
