The Celtics have inquired about Cavs' guard Anthony Parker and would love to trigger a deal for him, however the Chicago Bulls may have the better offer as they are believed to be offering up James Johnson and a second round draft pick as part of a package that could include Brian Scalarine, who would be immediately waived. The Celtics would have to part with Avery Bradley to compete with that kind of offer, and they seem unwilling to do that.

hey, Scal wouldn't be a bad backup plan if he's waived and we have a roster spot to use (Daniels?)

Wait, James Johnson is an asset now?  Seriously, I think Scal has more trade value.

I don't understand why Chicago would give up James Johnson to land Anthony Parker.

A.Parker is only a marginal upgrade over Keith Bogans and Kyle Korver.

James Johnson over the last two years has been one of the very worst players in the NBA.  He's been a huge disappointment in Chicago, and I'm sure they'd be very happy to get out from under the approximately $2 million he is guaranteed next year.

A team taking Johnson off Chicago's hands would be a gift.

He absolutely would be a bad backup plan.

I agree that Johnson has been one of the worst players in the NBA last year ... not necessarily this year, he looked a serviceable enough player (not rotation worthy but a solid 12th man type) in his brief playing time earlier this year.

I would happily pay him $2mil a year and continue to give him an opportunity to develop. He is a decent prospect. The cost is minimal compared the potential benefits of Johnson turning into a useful rotation player sometime in the next year or two.

--------------------------------------

On Johnson, from the brief bit of playing time he got early in the season, I thought his defense was much improved. He was still a train wreck offensively but he was pretty solid in terms of defense and rebounding.

A guy like that is a useful end of bench player. If he can continue to make more progress, improve his D some more and become serviceable offensively - which I think are both achievable targets - Johnson will become a solid rotation worthy player.

We need to get Scal to wear a wire and those special video recording glasses so we can get some insight on the Bulls.  That is the only value I see in bringing him back.  There are surely better options out there.

Nope, he's owed $1.8 million next year.

Wow, you're right.  I am shocked they picked up the option on him, I remember they were really trying to get rid of him last year.

I like Scali.  Bring him back.

Especially if the Celtics make a 2 for 1 deal as well.  Scali, 12th man.

Brian Scalabrine is not an NBA caliber player,
and never was. Seriously, it's time for him
to start selling real estate.

This has to be a joke. We need Scal like we need Gerald Green or Antoine Walker. No, no and no.
