Would be easy to consider that if you already have an Allstar MVP that maybe, just maybe it would be nice to let someone else have a chance. Don't know how many MVP awards Jordan had; but give me a break, it is such a meaningless award. I think they should do away with it. The fact that Kobe so desperately wanted it says more about him as a player than the fact that he actually got it.

Anyone can win MVP in the all star game if they actually try and take enough shots.  All you have to do is take it to the rim and no one's gonna contest.  Kobe doesn't pass when he's going against real defense and missing everything, why would anyone expect him to when he can score at will (aka old school Kobe)?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I agree. He tried harder in the allstar game than the last few laker games, which should be disturbing to laker fans. He is more concerned about adding to his resume so he can claim that he is better than jordan. It would have been nice if he was more willing to share and let guys like Durant and Griffin shine a little.

Just checked, Kobe missed twice as many shots than Jordan did when he scored 40.

I think the off-balance turnaround fadeaways off the opposite leg-type shots that he forced up against Ray's defense had a bit to do with that.  Ray was all up on him...weird for an ASG, but it shows the level of rivalry there.

So only points in the 4th Q "matter"?

Kobe assisted KD on a couple of those.

14 rebounds to 3 for KD - I guess those don't count either.

Teams don't really start playing defense in the 4th so I think it really is the time that it matters. Personally it is the only watchable part of the game for me.

I couldn't care less about all-star game MVPs (well, except when the league is stealing them from Ray Allen to give them to the golden boy).  Kobe deserved the award as much as anybody.

I don't think I've ever seen a team "play defense" in an allstar game. (4th Q score was 43-31)...

Without Durant the West would have lost that game. Kobe had a couple god awful turnovers late in the game too. When the stage as at it's greatest that's when the true MVP's are separated. Durant proved that at the end of the game.

I really don't care though it's not like it was clear cut but Kobe was really trying his hardest to win (an MVP) I'll give him that.

Kobe had ASG MVP like stats, Durant came up big in clutch moments, however, Kobe simply had home-court advantage.  If that game is in OKC, Durant quite possibly would have ended up with the award.

I watched the '92 ASG on ESPN Classic yesterday (the year Magic Johnson won the game's MVP award)...seemed a lot more fluid & team oriented, as if guys were really trying to set one another up, rather than completely gun for the whole game.  I miss those days, but I'm sure there are just as many contemporary fans who would prefer today's game over the style from 15-20 years ago.

It's hard for me to fathom the concept of an NBA allstar game and the words "When the stage as at it's greatest" coexisting...
