Either way, Melo has never shown any interest in signing with the Nets. I'm with Roy - this deal will fall through.

Not a bad trade at all for either team.  Late first round picks are easy to come by and are a complete and total crap shoot.  The only picks with any real potential value are NJ's this year (and with this trade they might actually make the playoffs int he east) and the Golden State pick.  That said Denver gets a lot more flexibility in things it can do, and I'm sure it is going to get at least 1 player out of the 4 if it keeps them all.  Favors has certainly shown promise, but he isn't Melo and may never be Melo.  Harris is obviously a good young PG, but Billups is still very good.  Great deal by both teams.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - Noah, G. Wallace, Melo,

What I'm interested in is what would happen with Billups.  Would he ask for a buyout and then sign with the Heat?  I do NOT want that to happen!

No, NJ will want him as a PG to replace Harris.

Which they should, but I've heard that Billups wouldn't want to play there.

Awesome, another report that the nets are getting Melo when everyone knows he wants to go to the Knicks. Oye.

What a crazy deal though. 4 first rounders? The Nets get Melo but they're screwed for a long time... Too bad it will fall through... Is Broussard reporting this?

Given his love for Denver and him stating he wants to move into the front office there after he retires- and his stated interest in mentoring Ty Lawson, I'd expect him to resign with Denver if NJ buys him out... Billups has a ring already, I don't see him chasing stars in Miami.

I've heard on here before that Miami would be his first choice if bought out.  Also would Murphy be bought out too?

The rumor is that if this deal happens, Denver will package Murphy and at least one #1 to Cleveland or another team that has cap room.  This would get the Nuggets under the luxury tax.

Who says its done? I've gone to a few websites and doesn't say this is final. Although I want this to happen. I think if he went to the knicks it would have been very scary. In NJ they wont make the playoffs this year (at least I dont think they will) and keeps him away from my dad and brothers' favorite team.

By the way, Carmelo is denying that he's meeting with the Nets:

Quote
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Carmelo Anthony says "no meeting at all" is scheduled with the New Jersey Nets.

Speaking Friday at a community service event in south Los Angeles, Anthony says a reported meeting with Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov is "news to me."

Anthony says: "If I was to meet with that guy (Prokhorov) to be honest I really don't know what I would say."

Prokhorov told team executives last month to end drawn-out trade talks for the Denver Nuggets All-Star forward. Prokhorov's spokeswoman insists nothing has changed with the impending NBA trading deadline, despite multiple reports of a possible meeting and/or deal.

Link.  That story is from 28 minutes ago, which once again shows that everything is up in the air still.

This would be great for the Nets.

You have to look beyond who is on the team now.  You have to look at what players could come to play with Melo to make a super team in Brooklyn.  They will be in position to make this team theirs as much as the Bull's are Jordons or the Lakers are Magic's or the Celtic's are Russels.

Would Paul or Howard be interested in joining Melo in Brooklyn?

In the NBA, you do what you have to do to get one of these stars.  They are the only way to win.

Funniest part of this, this could open the door for Isiah Thomas to take over the Knick front office again.

Isn't this most likely a case of a fake "official" report to drive up the asking price so the Knicks will be more likely to bend, especially knowing (or not knowing) that Melo could actually be had by the Nets?

It's like Danny always says, where there's smoke, there's fire.  I just believe it's the Net's smoke and the Knicks' eventual fire.

Its certainly a strong possibility.  Generally though, when highly respected NBA guys (like Wojo) report the deal is in place, and they are just working on Melo signing now, its probably more than just posturing.

I still think its not happening though, because Melo knows he can get to the Knicks if he plays hardball now.
