  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Nobody has anything to say here, huh?

I for one was actually starting to really look forward to seeing a Billups/Fields/Anthony/Stoudemire/Turiaf lineup.

Is he signing an extension or is this a rental?  Just thinking out loud, as I know you don't have details yet.

So the Denver fire sale begins?  Who do you want from Denver?

This is still contingent upon Carmelo signing the extension, right?  And Carmelo is meeting with both the Nets and the Knicks this weekend?

I think this is going to fall through (yet again).  Carmelo has to know that he can't win in NJ, and since the Knicks trade is so close to happening, I think he's going to force that.

There's no doubt that this would be an overpay by the Nets, but I think the "four #1s" thing isn't the huge deal that it sounds like.

NJ owns the rights to Golden State's 2012 pick (top-7 protected), Houston's 2012 pick (lottery protected), and the Lakers' 2011 pick (top-18 protected).  Those picks are likely to be mid-firsts (with the Lakers being a late first).  Picks like that just as often turn out to be a burden as they do a star.

I hope for the Nets sake that this trade doesn't go through. I was really excited about them moving to Brooklyn and having some good pieces but this would just be horrendous.

Even if he was contracted for 5 years at a reasonable price they're still giving up atleast 150% more value than they're bringing in. Derrick Favors & Troy Murphy should be enough. Throw in 1 draft pick, 2 maybe. Keep Harris out of this.

How far do they think this lineup can take them?

Billups
Morrow
Melo / Outlaw
Humpries
Lopez

You might be better than the Hawks, congratulations.

Trying to make a splash before they move to Brooklyn.  But I agree, most trades I've heard have been lopsided against the Nuggets.  This one goes the other way.

I've heard the expression "trade a dollar for 3 quarters" but this seems to be more like "trade a dollar for 3 quarters, 5 dimes and a nickel".  The Nuggets aren't getting any franchise guys (unless Favors blows up), but they're getting a LOT of pieces to develop the team or flip for other assets.

But they're also a bargaining chip for another player down the line. You don't have to use those picks. You could offer an attractive package to a team looking to rebuild w/ those picks and Morrow - or maybe give all your picks and convince a team to take on Outlaw.

IE: Say the Hornets were convinced they couldn't retain David West, they'd at least give some thought to a trade centered around Morrow, Outlaw and 2 first rounders, right? I'd bet the Cavs would absolutely jump at that trade for Antawn Jamison.

Yeah, the proposed deal actually isn't bad, particularly with them also getting Billups back.  Depending on which picks are being sent, those really may not be a ton of value.  I like this deal better than the one reported previously, since they are not giving up Morrow in it as well.  They would also still have Sasha (expiring contract), and possibly some other assets to move before the deadline to fill out the rest of the roster (they could certainly use another quality big man).

What I'm interested in is what would happen with Billups.  Would he ask for a buyout and then sign with the Heat?  I do NOT want that to happen!

No, NJ will want him as a PG to replace Harris.
