I agree with Chris.  While I think Reggie should make it, I don't believe that it's an outrage he didn't make in the first time.

True, but remember this isn't about not making it, it's about not even making the final list to be voted on for entry.  I guess it's more or less moot if he wasn't getting in anyway, but it's very surprising that he couldn't even make the finalists.

He'll get in sooner or later regardless, so it's not much to get worked up over either way.  I bet PacersBlog is burning down right now though - wouldn't Miller be their first real HOFer?

I suppose.  However, only 5 All Star teams, only twice being named to even the All NBA Third Team, only an 18 PPG average, no titles, and most of his heroics coming against a hardly-epic New York Knicks team doesn't exactly scream "all time great."

I agree that because of his incredible shooting he should get in.  But this is hardly a travesty.

He didn't even make the Final ballot.

Mark Jackson is on that ballot I believe......

Again, is this possibly somewhat unfair (not making the ballot)?  Sure.  But it's hardly some travesty.

I agree with a couple of the posters statements#1.NBA should own it,#2.Reggie was one dimensional, didn't win a title, and only was a all star 5 of his 18seasons...i remember him not being liked very much outside of Indiana back in day.Even media had problems with him at times. There is probably a combination of things to why he didn't make the list...Cheryl will really kid him now.

If Reggie doesn't get in, what are the chances of Ray being snubbed too?  They are considered very comparable, although I think Ray is a bit more rounded player than Reggie.  Will the championship be the difference for Ray?

Ray won't be snubbed, he's got a ring and is extremely well-liked and respected on top of being ahead of Reggie in most if not all major stats.

But it wouldn't shock me if he wasn't a first-balloter either.  I actually like the idea of the NBA holding first-ballot admission aside for the truly all-time best.

Their careers really aren't as close as you might think.  Not only does Ray have a title, he's also made twice as many All Star teams (10 to Reggie's 5).

I'd also say Ray is a much more well-round player, being a better playmaker, defender, and penetrator than Reggie ever was.

5 years ago I could've seen Ray not being first ballot, but I don't see how a 10 time All Star who won a title can't be a first ballot Hall of Famer (especially when he's also the All Time 3 point champ and one of the classiest guys in professional sports).

Should be on the final ballot. Pretty surprising - however, let's be honest here, Reggie's playing career is magnified by hitting big shots in non-Finals playoff games against the Knicks.

He wasn't a particularly good defender, passer or rebounder and was only an elite scorer a couple years. He was a good player over a long period of time - which means he should be a HOF'er, but certainly isn't a slam dunk by any means.

If Reggie is a sure-fire HOF'er, than Vince Carter better get the same consideration. Perception matters.

Although I'm disappointed not to be included on this year's HOF ballot, I sincerely wish the best of luck to this year's Class of Finalists, all of whom I admire and respect greatly.

Hall process is wildly political. The NBA jams through Stern's favorites. TV networks get NCAA announcers in.

Reggie Miller will eventually get there, but like Chris Carter in the NFL, I think it's gonna take a while. At least Reggie has exhibited some class about it--Carter wears his snub like a scarlet letter.

This was his first chance, right?  I am OK with this.  Miller is probably a Hall of Famer, but not a first ballot one IMO.  I think of him as one of the greatest shooters in history, but not really one of the greatest players.
Agreed

The only reason he is an HOF candidate in the first place is his longevity.

Miller was never that dominant a player in the NBA. Good, an All-Star, but never great.
