So this article here basically already states its a forgone conclusion: http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/basketball/celtics/view/2011_0217russells_monument-al/ (especially when Pags said that "we were hoping to surprise Bill [by unveiling the statue]").  However, here is the question to pose:

Where would it be built? The Garden is ruled out - THANK GOD.  I love how Red's statue is at Fanueil Hall.  It is literally one of Boston's great monuments.  It's something tourists see - not just Garden dwellers.

My vote: Boston Common, or Public Gardens.

Why not next to Red's?

I have not been to Boston before, but I have seen pics of Red's statue. I like how his was done.

Since Red and Bill were so close in real life, why not build it close to or right next to Red?

I would rather the Statue in North Station area, close to the (Whatever the name) Garden.
#18 is coming...

Very good idea.  I'd like to see this happen.

I'd like to see it near the Garden.  The Bobby Orr statue is already there; they can probably find a fitting play nearby to put Russell.

If not there, maybe somewhere in the Copley area.

I'm trying to envision how a Russell statue could be incorporated near Red's bench, and I'm having trouble seeing how it would fit in the area.

Russell is a straight G.

He's OG, son.

That's why he's getting a statue.
