Von Wafer's only 4 pounds less and an inch taller than Tony Allen, has bought into the defense, and you know what else? Wafer can actually shoot.

Someone on the ESPN boards said it best; we're basically getting everything Tony Allen did out of Wafer at a discount at this point of the season. The fact that even Doc has praised Wafer about his transformation...what more do you want?

Yes, he's putting in the effort on defense, but he is not as good of a defender as TA.  Look at what Kobe did to Von Wafer.  Kobe got into a rhythm against Wafer at that point it didn't matter who covered him because he was too hot to be shut down.  Tony Allen is a guy who can keep guys like Kobe from getting into rhythm, Von Wafer can't do that.

So you're not only blaming Wafer for supposedly allowing Kobe to do what he wanted (I mean, Kobe seemed to score 10 points out of his 23 when Wafer was on the floor...that's 13 to I assume Ray?), but you blame him for letting Kobe be "too hot"? That's not how it works, man. Kobe's hard to guard for a reason. If Ray Allen can't come back, rested and all, and shut down Kobe, even if you don't want to blame Ray, you don't blame Von for doing what he could and then watching  Kobe torch someone else. Kobe got hot, fine. Telling me TA stopped Kobe from getting hot is over-glorifying him, he fell for pump fakes here and there as well, and at the end of the day, he's still shorter than Kobe. What TA did was stop Kobe from going to the paint, and then contested. That's all you could ask your defender to do against Kobe, and that's all we can ask of Von.

TA isn't worth bringing back if we already have Von, plain and simple.

Of course players get into a rhythm in this game.  Kobe is one that when he gets into rhythm he's unguardable.  This is what I can tell you.  Last season, Kobe didn't shoot above 50% from the floor against once and he averaged 4 turnovers a game.  Like it or not, Tony Allen was part of the reason for that.  This season, Kobe has killed us. He scored 23 on 9/17 and 41 on 16/29 shooting.  Tony Allen is a better player than Von Wafer.  Did Tony Allen make some bad turnovers? Sure, but on average last season he only turned it over 1.2 times per game.  Did he take some bad shots? Sure, but he also shot 51% from the field.  He commits some bad fouls, but so does everyone in this game.  Tony Allen is the ultimate love-hate guy.  There really is no in between.  He plays great or he plays bad.  He is a great defender though.  He can cover 2s and most 3s.  He has issues with big 3s like Carmelo, but not too many guys in this league can cover Carmelo anyways.
do it

I think this year Ainge makes a deadline 2 for 1 trade and gives up on the idea that a 3rd year of a contract is completely undo able

Capt Jack for Quis and JO(bought out)
JO comes back for vet min.

or

Dorell Wright for Quis and Gody
Free agent signed after deadline

Both GSW and BobCats aren't making the playoffs this year, unless they have a cakewalk schedule after Allstar break and the 5 teams in front of them go on losing streaks to end the season.

Dorell Wright's contract isn't that bad, but it does have a 3rd year on it. Warriors might like a veteran presence like Quis, or just buy him out. And Jackson and Wallace aren't going to take Charlotte into a successful postseason, and Jordan knows that. Both trades IMO solidify our team for a playoff finish this time.
Can't stop, Rondo!

I think that we should trade for Rasual Butler, when I watch the clipper games I hardly ever see him get in, he can shoot the 3 and defend, some of the proposals I see on here is hilarious Butler seems realistic

Good assessment Meadowlark. What Tony does on D is very underrated, kind of like how what Perk does in the post on D often gets overlooked.

This team, healthy and with TA as that lock down wing defender, would be on another level this year defensively.

I think we'll still get to the final and win this year if we stay  even 90% healthy - meaning if we can keep Shaq and Semih healthy and either get Quis back or find an adequate replacement for him somehow. WE can win it without JO.

But it would have been nice to have found some guy somewhat comparable to TA in defense, once TA left.

But I love guys like Posey and TA, I think they are critical to winning grind it out games in the playoffs.
