the only bad trade the Knicks can make is trading Amare, which isn't going to happen.  They should be willing to trade everyone else on that team to get Melo, especially if it appears he might be going somewhere else.

I don't agree, Amar'e/Melo aren't good enough players to be an elite team with cast offs around them.

New York has to retain talent and flexibility to add talent if they want to build a contender.

The Knicks are at .500 with Amare and a bunch of cast offs and late first (or second) round picks.  Denver is one of the better teams in the West, with not much else around Anthony.  Don't underestimate what those two guys can do when coupled together.  And obviously if they traded everyone on the team except Amare they would be getting back a lot more then just Anthony (to make the numbers work).  And clearly, I'm not looking at this year, but going forward I believe the Knicks could easily find the pieces they need to be a contender.  If they lose out on Anthony then they won't be a contender any time soon.  The key is getting that second star.

Denver has had quite a bit of talent around Carmelo now, and they haven't been a contender over his time there.

Add to that the fact that both Melo/Amar'e are valuable because of their offensive abilities, it makes me skeptical.

As for the Knicks being .500, so he's as good as Chris Bosh woo....

Getting the second star is key, but so is getting either a third star or a ton of guys who can handle the non-scoring aspects of the game (defense/rebounding/ball movement)

Carmelo is another stat machine that shoots like .43% from the floor.  Great player but that type usually does not win championships, see LeBron for reference.  Elites like Magic, Larry and Jordan were 50% shooters.

I find it funny that Denver is going back to NJ now.  Unfortunately, it is too late.  Even if NJ wanted to come back to the table, by bringing NY to the table, and making it clear that they will do a deal with them, they gave Melo the leverage to not accept a new contract with NJ, which will make sure NJ does not stay in discussions.

Denver has really bungled things.  If they had accepted the Nets deal when it was on the table, I think Melo would have accepted the extension, because at that point NY was simply not in the picture, and he would have had to wait until the new CBA to sign with the Knicks (which he doesn't want to do).  Instead, they have been greedy, and have lost the best deal on the table, and their negotiating power gets less and less as the deadline approaches.

I think Denver and NJ did agree to a deal (a very good one for Denver), but then Melo said he wouldn't sign an extension. Only then did they have their owner put on that dog and pony show.

Makes sense.  Either get as much as possible for him (NJ or NY overpay) or just resign him to the max prior to the CBA being restructured (this is what I think will eventually happen due to Melo realizing how much money he stands to lose) or let him walk and save the space and start over.  

Then our long national nightmare will be over.

It is crap like this why I posted my thread regarding Lebron.  Lebron James is a better shooter then Michael Jordan from both 2PT and 3PT range.  MJ was the better foul shooter.  Lebron James has a better 2PT shooting percentage then Larry Bird does and isn't that far behind in 3PT% either.  Magic has everyone beat by a wide margin from 2PT range, but is not the 3PT shooter that any of the other three are.

There are plenty of reasons to dislike Lebron, but when you just blatantly make things up, you look foolish.

And for the record Melo hasn't shot 43.0% from the floor since his rookie year and has only been below 45% once since his second year.  Those include his 3PT numbers, from 2PT range, Melo has a career % of 47.9, which isn't terrible.
