Do we need a 5 for the immediate future more than we need a 3?

I can't believe that I would be saying this when the year started, but we need a 5th Center, at least for the next ten days more than we need a wing to backup PP.

I know that I am stating what everyone knows, but Perk, BBD and KG cannot effectively, without compromising their durability, man the 4/5 spot any longer all by themselves for the whole game. Ray and PP at least can get spelled by Nate and Wafer for the short term, and by virtue of the position, take less of a pounding in the process.

We've got to let Harangody go either by trade with other pieces for a 3 or 5 or cut him and "pay the man his money" Rounders. Ideally the trade would be a three for two or three for one or a two for one, to open up at least one roster spot, so we can sign either someone bought out or a free agent.

At the 5, Earl Barron and Dwayne Jones, I believe are still free agents. Yah, yah, yah, I know they are still available for a reason, but a 10 day contract at the vet minimum, will at least give KG/Perk/BBD a little help until reinforcements arrive, IF THEY ARRIVE. If not, maybe they will surprise us and stick. At least they have length and can rebound and D.

At the 3, Joe Alexander is, I think, still available. Again, a 10 day for him can't hurt us very much, and he definitely has the physical tools. Big upside with little to lose. If we don't like them, or if something better comes along, we dump 'em. Udoka is available too, I think.

We need NBA experienced help, at least to plug the dike for 10 days, and more so I think at the 5 than the 3, but ideally at both. (5 5s on the roster:never thought I'd see the day.)

We don't need another 5.  We have Shaq and Semih who will all be able to play again after the A/S Break and with Perk back, they won't need to put in big minutes and maybe can stay healthy.   JO had the surgery and will be back for the stretch run to give Perk and KG some rest also going into the playoffs.  In the meantime, we have Perk, KG, Big Baby and Luke who can carry us through until we get some others back.

The real need is a 3.  Marquis's situation is up in the air.  He may or may not be back and we have no back up.  No one can really back up Pierce if or until Marquis can come back.

Agreed. A solid contributor at SF would be much better. I actually love it when Doc goes small--it makes us really tough to guard and we can actually keep up with the younger teams that like to run. If this were the playoffs, though I'd agree that center is more important.
