Am I the only one that doesn't like the idea that Ray is on the verge of breaking the record against the lakers?  I mean, how often have we seen a team lose when a player breaks a record.  How would we feel if Ray broke the record but the Celts lost the game.  Most of all, it seems that the record could be a distraction during the game.

I have one hope for tomorrow.  WIN THE GAME!  That's it.  Breaking the record, if it happens, will be an afterthought if the Celts lose the game.

Well I want both the win and the record.

I have no concerns about this.  The bigger concern is that the celts will have only one center and one forward for the game tomorrow night, making a win extremely difficult.

Won't care if Ray gets the record tomorrow night and we lose.  It has to be the win and record or even just the win.

Just get the W guys.  If Ray gets the record en route to that then all the better.

Im pretty sure Ray is hardly even focusing on the record. If he open, wherever that may be, he's going to take the shot. The records going to happen when it happens.

Just think of it as added entertainment, like a WWE match when they announce at the last minute that it's a ladder match. ;D

i am thrilled that Ray gets to have a chance to break
the record
1) in the garden
2) vs Kobe

earlier in their careers, Kobe and Ray butted heads, Kobe put him down compared to himself.

take this Kobe !!! up the nose biyattchhh

Ray's bound to make two threes in a game...it's not like he is going to be out there forcing up shots.  The record and the win are extremely unlikely to be connected in any kind of way

  • Another undersized Celtic...

you may be the only one :0

When Pierce got 20,000 pts we won that game. Ray isn't going to chuck up poorly timed threes so he can break the record--if he was the kind of person to do that he would have taken more 3's last game or against Orlando. I LOVE that he would break the record against the Lakers, with Reggie Miller calling the game!

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
well you can look at it that way or you can look at it like this:

1) we are down a few key pieces right now and need all the help we can get.
2) Rays record will get all the boys pumped up and NOT wanting to lose on home court vs the Lakers on national TV, the crowd will also be going gangbusters in anticipation of the record which will help us immensely.

So I think that it's the perfect time for the record to be broken- it's like extra motivation (not that the C's ever need that) that we can use to bury the purple-yellow scumbags even deeper in one of the biggest regular season games of the year while the whole world is watching.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I don't really care a ton about individual records, but I understand why others do.  I'll be glad for him when it happens, but the record is (in my view) a personal accomplishment that is nice for him and his family, but isn't why I watch the Celtics.

This is an important game as it either puts the C's up 4 v. the Lakers in the loss column or up 2 (dangerously close).  A loss also puts Miami in striking distance on Sunday,

I hope it's not a distraction.

A loss doesn't put Miami in strinking distance. A loss tomorrow night puts Miami in the numer 1 spot in the east.

We are 38-13 and Miami is 38-14. If the Celtics lost tomorrow wouldn't they be both tied for first? Plus we have a better record against the Eastern Conference and a 2-0 series lead, so I think that gives us the edge.

Pretty much just how I figured.  Losing to the lakers overshadows Rays record.  Can anyone actually say they feel good about anything after tonight?  And while we were definitely depleted, as I a fan I felt a letdown after ray broke the record. It looked a little like the players did too.
