Idea that works - Melo,Harrington and Ely for Bynum and Odom

If the chemistry worked out, LA would be sick. And Denver wouldn't be out of the playoff picture either.

Fisher,Blake
Kobe,Brown,Barnes
Melo,Artest,Walton
Harrington,JoeSmith,Caracter
Gasol,Ely

Even this team on paper doesn't look like a team that could beat the Celtics in a 7 game series, but it could compete with Miami's Heatles
Giving up both Odom/Bynum would mean the Lakers wouldn't get out of the West.

I agree.

Their frontcourt gets decimated by that trade and they won't get by San Antonio.

Even if they somehow did make it to the Finals, they'd get killed up front by the C's.

This can only happen if they can find a taker for Artest.

Yeah, I don't think they would give up both of them, unless they were getting something much better than Harrington.

If the Lakers are willing to give up Bynum in this deal, I think they are in the drivers seat, because unless the Nets come back, no one else can match that (or will match it) without assurances of Melo resigning.

This can only happen if they can find a taker for Artest.

LA - Anthony, Harrington
Den - Bynum, Walton, Caracter, first, cash

A third team could be added.

This would work.

GS - Odom, Walton
LA - Anthony, Harrington, Biedrins
Den - Radmanovic, Bynum, Caracter, cash

I don't think they even need to include the first, unless someone else comes in to sweeten the deal.  Bynum by himself is better than anything else we have heard since NJ walked away.

C - Gasol / Ratliff
PF - Melo / J.Smith
SF - Artest / Barnes
SG - Kobe / Shannon
PG - Fisher / Blake

That team is still pretty darn talented. They could challenge for the West.

San Antonio don't have the talent up front to out-do the Lakers small ball lineup. They'd have to match up and they are weak at the forward positions. LA would still have an advantage against them.

Dallas would be a tougher test. They could probably hide Melo on Tyson Chandler but that put a lot of pressure on Gasol to be the main defender on Dirk + a key offensive threat. Probably not feasible. Likely comes down to how good a job Artest can do defensively + how good a job Rick Carlisle does with difficult matchups (a failure in past playoff series for him).

It's possible ... that team could still come out of the West. So long as the play small.

Kupchak has to realize that a trade like this probably kills his title chances this year, right?

Denver is not going to trade for Bynum straight up.

LA can't afford to trade away both Bynum and Odom

Therefor, they need a way to get Artest involved so they can take back a bad contract.

It wouldn't be good against Boston ... but it would work well against their rivals in the West and give their best chance of making it back to the Finals (if Odom + Bynum were traded).

I love the GS trade.

It would put a fork into LA's title chances with the lack of defense down low.
