There are so many games this year that we have lost or struggled because we are getting maybe 30 minutes max out of our "bigs" not including Baby, or Semih. As good as this season has been its been horribly frustrating seeing us play short handed night after night with Perk, Shaq, or JO out or at least two of them in most cases.

Example: last night we have Baby as our big on Dirk who just tears him up. If Jo was healthy this doesn't happen. KG or JO can always be in on Dirk.

The worst part of all this: JO only needed to be there until Perk came back for heavens sake. Now Perk is back and Shaq has played too much and has an achilles issue? Man that explains him looking like a statue lately.

I give up on hc advantage. Isn't happening. This JO set back officially makes it too much to overcome. Our best shot is to maintain the lead over Miami and LA and just try to be peaking come May.

Danny said hopefully back early April. So celts waste total MLE this year. Danny also said surgery does not solve long term problem. Wish they could just cut him now. Should have had surgery at the beginning of the season. What a bust

You'll realize how important he will be to this team when he returns to give us an extra big body in the playoffs.

I subscribe to this post.

A lot of us here were ready to throw Sheed to the wolves during the regular season last year.

Then the playoffs happened.

I still believe that JO will be able to help us.

As for his health? Worse case scenario is that he won't be able to play. This won't be because of his heart or desire, because to me he demonstrated that when he did play.

He was/is probably our best shot-blocker, and loves doing it.

I won't fault him for his health. That's something he can't control. Danny signed a good center, and he could not foresee that JO would have these issues.

Neither did JO.

Get well, big fella.

" Danny signed a good center, and he could not foresee that JO would have these issues.

Neither did JO."

Lots of us foresaw this situation EXACTLY.

I was shocked when DA signed him, and would have been surprised if he contributed.

The C's had a close-up view of how worthless he was in round 1 last year. I don't see why they decided to risk it.

Need for Sheed.

Tell him to get in the pool and hit the gym starting tomorrow.

To the people wanting to cut JO... You don't understand anything about how the NBA works. All cutting JO would do is give us an extra roster spot, that's it. We would still have to pay him everything he is entitled to on his contract if we were to cut him. We are better off just keeping him on the end of the bench until next year where he will have an expiring contract worth around 6 million dollars.

Regarding the MLE: the only importnace of the $$ spent relates to who would have been here instead and what contribution that person would have made.  This, we have absolutely no way of knowing.  BUT, I'll say with pretty good certainty that we wouldn't be much better than 37-12 with the #2 record in the NBA.

TP for the sense of clarity regarding JO.

bottom line at this point, he may be back in time to help for the playoffs but the question is, who are we going to sit out?  Erden or Wafer?  Personally at this point, I'd seriously consider keeping both Semih and Wafer on the active list as bigger contributors than JO.

I could see the team applying for the injury exemption for JO for next year if he can't contribute this year in the playoffs

Also, if we didn't sign JO, we would have probably given the full MLE to Shaq.

To all the JO apologists. If you put yourself in the shoes of a Celtic player actually on the team do you want this guy on the same team as you? Lets see..

He came into camp fat out of shape and didnt play in the preseason. People forget this little fact but it wasnt the knee at that point by his own accord. He was complaining of his back and hamstring.

Then the issue becomes the knee. So they have him sit out to rest it. They give him no timetable. Essentially saying take as much time as you need we want you to come back healthy. They ask him at this point to consider surgery because there is no obvious improvement. He refuses instead opting to go to New York to get other doctors opinions. Finally they settle on him just resting it more and being ready for the playoffs. And now finally after all that he concedes and now is opting for surgery. And wont be back till march. Unreal.

If any of you can honestly say youd want to play with a procrastinating pansy like that then all the more power to ya. Id personally ask him not to come around the team. He could have taken care of all this in the offseason. He chose not to. He could have taken care of it in the pre-season. He chose not to. He could have taken care of it in the first half of the season. He chose not to.

This guy is an embarassment and im ashamed to say hes on my team. He doesnt even deserve to put on the Celtic uniform as far as im concerned.

Wasting the MLE this year (and for the last 3 years running) has far wider implications than the Cs record on February 5th, 2011.  Implications that include how far this team can go in the playoffs, how many assets this team has going forward, and what kinds of moves will be necessitated in the future because of bad moves made in the past.

Dorrell Wright, Kurt Thomas, Shannon Brown, the list goes on and on and on--there were plenty of guys available for LESS than what JO got, and all of them would have helped much more on this team, not only on February 5th, 2011, but also in the playoffs and next season.

It's a testament to this team's core that they could go 3 straight seasons without adding another player to that core via the full MLE and still end up being one of the best teams in the league.  It's amazing; and it's also sad.  Just imagine what we could have been had we been able to add just other good player to this team?
Folly. Persist.

Is this a recyled Rasheed Wallace thread from last year, with the names switched?

What was the point of delaying the surgery 3 weeks afar once again? The staff's decision making around JO's knees is mind-boggling.
I just read on espn that the surgeon, Ainge, and Rivers all wanted Jermaine to get the surgery done a long time ago.  It was Jermaine who wasn't onboard.

This is the most important part of this story. It seems everyone but JO wanted him to have the surgery much earlier in the season. Obviously it is his choice, but this stupid decision means he will basically be useless this season. And Ainge made it clear that the surgery does not solve any of the long-term issues -- bone-on-bone, arthritis -- so my guess is he also will be useless next year. Cut him now and find a big body that can at least give you 10 minutes a game. Or, depend on Semih. Either way, it is foolish to think this guy is going to come back and contribute anything.

Thanks for the clarification. Still, in my mind, it doesn't make sense since JO was supposed to decide on a Tuesday some weeks ago whether he chose surgery or not. So basically he said no to surgery then, three weeks later, decided he was going to get one. Okay. ???

Anyway, here is what he posted on Twitter for what it's worth :

"'Banner #18' and if you are a C's fan, then you know exactly what I'm talking about! That's my focus and determination dealing with rehab!" In an earlier Tweet, he wrote, "This has been the toughest year of my career by far! I know that god has a plan for me so i wont lose faith or question him at all!"

I hope JO will be back to produce off the bench, I like him and I think he deserves it. Darn injuries have slowed him down for so long and he doesn't seem to have been able to reach his full potential. Get well soon, Jermaine.

Go back to miami, indiana, or portland Jermaine. Wherever it was that they let you get away with this type of lame concientious objector type behavior. Your a pansy and the realBoston fans dont want you here. And you can bet when you come back ill be there with as many fellow hooligans as i can muster just to boo you and let you know what the real fans think of your cowardly decisions.

I am a real Boston fan, despite what you think, and I hope JO bounces back from this surgery and helps Boston win #18.  I wish he had made the decision earlier, but it was a difficult decision that the rest of his life could depend on...and it is his decision not yours.  It is easy to pass judgement when you are not personally involved.
