Phoenix Suns head coach Alvin Gentry was a guest on with Sports 620 KTAR's Gambo and Ash Thursday afternoon and made it very clear that after the way Garnett played in Phoenix last Friday, he has very little respect left for the Boston big man.

"I used to be a big fan of [Kevin Garnett]," he said. "Some of the antics he's pulled lately, you don't need to do that as a star player. I've never seen Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant or even a Dwyane Wade do that."

The coach was upset because Garnett not only hit Channing Frye in the groin late in the Suns 88-71 victory over the Celtics but also because the forward placed his foot where Frye could land on it after shooting. Gentry viewed the tactics as reckless play that could cause injury to a fellow player.

"You can compete and play hard, that doesn't need to be a part of it. It really doesn't," he said. "To do that to someone you can seriously hurt him," he said. "You know the fact that all of a sudden Channing comes down on his foot twice on jump shots that's a very dangerous play.

"If you're asking me, yeah, I lost a little respect for him. I love his competitive nature but there is no place for what he was doing in our game."

Haha, well I have lost respect for Alvin Gentry, however I doubt my opinion is going to make him lose sleep just like I don't think KG is bothered by it.  Its all Laundry, if KG were playing for the suns Gentry would be his most avid defender.

i hadn't heard KG put his foot under him, and I heard the hand to the groin might have been inadvertent.  anyone have a link to the video?

. . . and we would all hate KG. ;)

(Well, unless he was helping the Suns beat the Lakers.  Then, I guess we'd like him.)

I dunno the "stomach shot" is really weak it looks like KG barely scraped him.  That was a total acting job by frye.

The foot under him as he's coming down... ehh... i always called that a dirty play.  am I gonna have to change my opinion of bruce bowen now?

As a admitted homer I didn't think either of 2 incidents was intentional and it was completely blow out of proportion by the media.  I heard some idiots mentioning suspension.. : (

You can make the point that KGs classless (I don't think he is) for all the cursing but, he's not dirty and Alvin Gentry knows this so I will ignore his opinion.

Tell him to worry about Phx actually making the playoffs.

I don't remember KG ever doing the foot under a shooter thing before (MN native).  He isn't as athletic as he used to be, so might be a byproduct of that, don't believe it is on purpose.

The dirty tricks are classic KG though.  He's always pushing, nudging, hitting, pulling etc to get in people's heads and get them out of the game.

A little bit of dirty play is okay with me, so long as there's no intent to injure.  However, *if* KG was really intentionally sliding his foot under a jump shooter, then yes, that's classless, and would make me lose respect for KG, too.

However, I'm not convinced he did it intentionally.  If he did, Doc needs to take him aside and tell him to knock it off.

No 'we' all wouldn't.  I actually heard of and saw KG prior to coming to Boston and never hated him so please say most from now. K thanks.

I think many fans, coaches, and opposing players are of the belief that KG has changed, so just because lots of fans supported him back in 2004 doesn't mean they still like him today.  The yelling and trash talk may not have changed, but a lot of the other stuff has (or, the perception / visibility of it has changed.)

The only thing that's changed is the winning, IMHO.  Being cursed out while losing is tough pill to swallow.  Anyway as I said I have no problem with people saying what they believe to be true just leave out the 'we all' scenarios.

Once there was this guy I was fencing. We were using sabers and they can be a little whippy.  So the guy hits me pretty much harder than I've ever been hit right on the arm where there is the least padding. The very next action it happens again. He's a good fencer. What are the odds of that happening accidentally two times in a row? I wait for an opening. I put my whole arm, back, and wrist into it and it whips all the way around his chest and back and he keels over. The next hit he hits my arm again very intentionally, but not as hard as the first two times.  There weren't any problems after that.

This whole "What did I do act" by KG is getting old. Sometimes players aren't trying to cause problems but they aren't trying to be careful either.  You will maintain a safety zone and use safe tactics near me or I guarantee I will not be safe with you.

Accidents are contagious. I can have them too.  It might be a blessing for KG if he gets ejected in these cases.

Well he got ejected in that game and ever since '2 games' he's been a perfect angel on the court..

I don't think he was trying to put his foot underneath. But it does look like a nut shot however. Frye overreacted to that, it didn't look like it was that hard. It looked more of an attempt to get under his skin than anything.
Back to wanting Joe fired.
