Boston hasn't hosted all star game since 1964, what gives?

Stern has really dropped the ball on this one. He should have scheduled an all star game in Boston during the big 3 era. That would have been awesome.

Our new Valentines day tradition is watching AS game weekend. We center our celebration around the activities. We dont even celebrate the 14th of February, we celebrate AS weekend.

Yes FEB isn't the ideal month to be holding events in Boston for sure.

But anyways, Boston hosted several ASG's in the 60's and maybe 70's too.  So the league probably just wants to spread the wealth.

The NBA ASG is all about money, and how much can be made.  The NBA stands to make FAR more money in a warm climate.  Basically the ASG has become the Super Bowl, just on a smaller scale.

I disagree.  Boston is within driving distance of the biggest city in the county and the 5th biggest.

Except the baseball all-star game was in July.  You're asking to stage one of your biggest events in a northern city (that isn't NYC) in the middle of February.  

There's little doubt that Boston has the ability to host it.  The issue is whether the league would want to do it here based on their recent track history in regards to ASG.

Although Philly had it not too long ago so who knows.

ASG's are also used to reward places that have new arenas, so that's a factor.

True. But I'm not exactly asking them to host in an unpopulated northern city. We're not Milwaukee or Minnesotta.

It would be a lot smarter to have it here than say Memphis or some southern unpopulated area like Oklahoma City or Sacramento.

Jealous.  Wish I could save money on Valentine's Day that way.

Up to a few years ago, we didn't have the resources to host it.  We didn't have a building large enough to host all the side events, I believe they built one a few years ago(not sure what it's called).  The other issue is the weather.  It's cold, we can get drilled with snow.  Also, I'm guessing a lot of players wouldn't want to come to Boston in February.  We have a lot of tradition here, but players don't care about that.  They want to go somewhere warm, get a mini vacation, not somewhere where its 10 degrees for 5 days straight.

I think it has to be a weather thing. February is arguably the worst month in Boston when it comes to weather. Although, I did read somewhere that Boston does want to host the ASG in the near future. I don't remember where I read it, but if I find I'll post the link.
