But it was Bynum's sore left knee that kept him out of practice Monday, spending the time having his knee attended to by Lakers trainer Gary Vitti.

Lakers would have won the title this year if Bynum was healthy.

Too early to say.

He might yet go on to have a reasonably healthy career.

He hasn't missed a game yet, so I don't see it as a big deal. Players miss practice all the time.

It is a continuation of a pattern with him.

Yeah, and when the soreness is in the non-repaired knee it's pretty worrisome, because it means he has an imbalance issue that is stressing the other leg.

Though he did have that knee scoped at one point too...basically he's like a lot of big men for whom the 50-60 game season is the norm.

I almost feel sorry for the kid, but I guess he's on the Ralph Sampson route. I dislike hate the Lakers, but I don't like it when a player can't reach his potential because of health issues.

He's a good player, but I don't see him turning into a great player, and unless a miracle solves his health troubles, he's not having a long career in the NBA. He's no Danny Manning.

It would be great if he could play at full health, but I guess it won't happen. I don't think he'd make a big difference without Gasol, who is a great passer in the post, and feeds Bynum for easy buckets. He's a good rebounder and a defensive presence. He's got more size than Perk, and a slightly better offensive game, but he can't defend like Perk.

In my opinion, Artest and Fisher are far more important to Lakers hopes of getting out of the West. Right now they don't look fine, but the Playoffs are a different animal. Bynum is as healthy as he's going to be, sadly.

Huh? He missed the first 24 games of the season.  That's 24 out of 48.  His first 6 games back, he played 18 or fewer minutes.  So, he's played his regular minutes (averageing less than 25 a gmae) in a total of 18 games this year (with no preseason).  And... his knee is now sore enough to miss practice.  This certainly doesn't mean anything for sure, but you can't dismiss this as meaningless.

I guarantee that if KG was sitting with a trainer working on his sore knee, C's nation would be terrified.   Of course, KG is 10+ years older than Andrew, but it seems that Bynum's knees are aging prematurely.  Obviously, he could still conribute this year and help the Lakers to another championship -- but, can't you acknowledge that this is NOT what you want to hear after he's had a total of only 590 game minutes this season?

Andrew Bynum will not play tonight against the Rockets, after a MRI revealed a bone bruise in his left knee. He is now listed as day-to-day.

Not really.  I assume a bone bruise is result of a knee banging incident -- something that could happen to anyone and not related to his 'bad knees'.  Correct?    This would then have nothing to do with him staying healthy in the longer term. Good news for Lakers I would think (unless a bone buise is something worse than I think it is).

Thing about Bynum is that he takes longer to come back from injuries then most. Laker fans ive been talking too expect him to be out at least a couple weeks with this latest injury.

Bone bruises can occur internally without any contact with an external object. It is quite common for the patella (kneecap) to bruise by banging/rubbing against the femur when the kneecap is out of alignment.

If I had to guess, I'd say that this is what happened to Bynum. He is moving awkwardly due to the injury in the right knee, and his left knee is probably behaving improperly too. He's had that left knee scoped in the past too, so it's probably prone to such injury because it's missing cartilage.
