I'm not sure if anyone else noted this (and the announcers didn't even say anything so I might be missing something here), but I saw Paul Pierce in the middle of everything last night trying to break things up when they got out of hand. Although it's nice to see him playing peacemaker rather than instigator, if my memory serves me correctly he was not checked in to the game at that point. I also thought that any time a player leaves the bench in one of these incidents, it is automatically grounds for a possible suspension. I noticed this right away, but have not heard anything from anyone else... Can someone please explain why I am wrong, or why this is being overlooked. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I haven't heard anything about it, because it would suck for him to be out for tomorrow's game against the Lakers. And you know the league is probably looking at KG's incident with a possible suspension as well.

Pierce had checked into the game 13 seconds earlier. No one left the Celtics bench from what I could see.

OK, I figured I was missing something... Thanks for the clarification.

Is PP allowed more since he is Captain of the team? That could be the reason.
And so far as the league following their 'rules' on suspensions, etc., I don't think they can do that since they make up the rules as they go.

Even if he was coming off the bench, they would not have gone in after the fact to slap a suspension on him because he really was trying his best to avoid a problem.

Trying to avoid a problem or break up a fight doesn't matter.  If you leave the bench during something the league deems to be an altercation, you will be suspended.  It's a black and white rule (although there is gray regarding what constitutes an "altercation").

But he wasn't on the bench so this entire thread is useless.
