Free throw shooting % alone is a very poor measure of work ethic. Especially given his improvment in many other areas of the game. Its clearly a mental block with him at the moment, hopefully he overcomes it.

Huh?

Anyway Rondos has improved his shot and is getting confident taking the jumper I see progress...

Rondo's FTs haven't improved, but I think that his overall outside shooting has this season.

Also, while I think we'd all like to see Rondo improve his overall shooting and free throws, I don't think his poor results are due to a poor work ethic.  It's clear that Rondo has worked on his game a lot since his rookie year.

Lots of guys don't improve parts of their game in their career; sometimes guys just don't have a skill, and never develop it.  I mean, if shooting was such an easy skill to learn, everyone would be good at it, right?  And yet, many extraordinarily talented players never get the hang of it, including the man you cite, Shaq.

Agreed, w/ as many ft attempts in games ALONE as Shaq has taken in his career would be more practice than one would need... then add the ones he shoots to practice, yikes 0.0

Ft shooting in game is not as easy as it may seem. Should they be better? Yes! But their % doesn't mean they don't work at it!

Improvement alone is insufficient to gauge someones's work ethic.  Everyone's got skills ceilings and everyone has their strengths and weaknesses.  You can dedicate yourself to improving only so many things at once.  As others have said, there is modest improvement in his shooting, but exponential improvement in his strength areas.

If you use ONLY improvement as your criteria for demonstration of work ethic, then wouldn't you say Kevin Garnett must have a poor work ethic given that he's been shooting at about the same percentage since joining the C's.  I agree it's a silly comparison, but just pointing out that statistical stagnation in one area is not evidence (in and of itself) of a  lack of work ethic.

There are different types of work ethic though.  While I agree Shooting is a skill that can be developed with proper fundamentals and development of the muscle memory of those fundamentals.  But one could hardly say he dogs it when he plays.  Some guys hate practice and love games, its the way it is, folks.  I do think he put a lot of time in this off season on his jumper.  His general shooting has improved as its mentioned above.  I don't think he is lazy at all

I think a lot of free throws is mental.  Concentration is the key.  With a guy who shoots poorly it kind of stacks up against you in your head.  One has to overcome this as well as the mechanics.  There are all types of shooters.  Some guys shoot better on the move.   I knew some guys who shot better with people on them.  They were good shooters normally but took it up a notch when someone was on them and they shot better.  Rondo definitely is better on the move shooting.

Rondo as good as he is as a player still has a lot of work to do.  Shooting and FT's are his primary weaknesses now.

it's hard to shoot at a high percentage when your hands are as huge as his... i'm not putting all the blame on that, but it's gotta factor into it a little bit.

I'm going to vote on the side of he has a great work ethic. This was a crazy good H.O.R.S.E. competition last year versus Casspi and Durant. The 3's at the end was surprising.

Lol, no matter how you spin it, I dunno if Rondo coulda done that without practice. Clearly it's not as easy in a real game, and as long as Rondo gets over that mental barrier, he'll be fine.

remember the HORSE competitions they showed at halftime in the 70's ? Jo Jo White was great at HORSE.

i worked on a couple of those JoJo shots i saw him use for my own HORSE games in college - that right-leg-only bank shot off the wing was a JoJo White special - wonder if he taught Rondo that before the all-star break ?

This op is way out in left field and how the heck would any of us know someone's work ethic?

I only decided to post here because no one brought up the problems Rhondo's been having with his feet. The planter's something..sorry I cannot remember what it's called. Someone here on cb said the pain from it is like having a nail driven into your heel.

Wouldn't this have something or everything to do with his play lately?

How much of it is mental?

It seems to me within the offense, when Rondo has to take a quick open shot, it is better then when he time to think and shoot.

Also one of the reason Shaq is a poor free thorw shooter is bc of the size of his hands. It is like trying to shoot a softball. If I remeber correctly there was a thread about Rondo's hands being huge before.
