Is it possible that Pujols is a $300 million man?

There has never been one in baseball history, you know -- not even Alex Rodriguez. But scuttlebutt from other clubs is that that's where Pujols and Lozano began the conversation.

Ten years. At $30 million a year. For a total of $300 million.

Good point... This is fairly absurd.

If Omar Minaya was still managing my Mets i bet hed give him 10 years 300 mil only to have Pujols get his arm cut off in year one and miss the next 9 years of his guaranteed contract.

If I'm the Cardinals, I'm careful.  Baseball is not the star dominated sport that basketball is.  Unlike basketball when a star can literally influence every play over the course of a game, Pujols is only up every 9 times and can only field a ball hit in his direction.  Quite simply, if the game is on the line, Pujols might not be up.

If the Cardinals want to make the jump into the next payroll category, they should go for it.  But if not, they might want to pass.  This could also handcuff them for a very, very long time.

That is ridiculous. Too much money it doesn't matter how good he is... that is beyond crazy.

Oh, if I only I chose to go to little league practice instead of staying home to watch ninja turtles that could have been me.  :'(

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Not that I think pro-athletes deserve anywhere near the money they make, but that is about market value for Pujols. He has an amazing resume and quite a few years left in him. Maybe you do 8 years with 2 option years, but in comparison, I don't think 30 mill is out of the question.

With ARod's contracts, the first at 25 mill for 10 years would probably be more nowadays with inflation, and, in his last one, there was quite a bit of controversy surrounding the guy when he signed.

Good for these guys being able to 'earn' all of this money. It is, afterall, a business...but it still does kinda make me sick.

I have a feeling that somehow, by the time this is all over, Pujols will end up on the Yankees. I know it sounds strange, but I think it will happen.

At some point the public won't be able to afford tickets.  Is he worth it?  If an owner thinks he is, he is.

Call me strange...But the person I'm paying to watch next season is Jim Thome.  I love every swing being for the fences.  There was talk of playing for the love of the game earlier in this thread.  I don't know any of these guys....But if I were to choose anybody who outwardly seems to play for the love of the game, it's Thome.

Pujols deserves to be the highest paid player in the MLB.

He has put up the numbers without having the great hitting lineups offering him protection.
