Memphis will play better without Mayo.

Sounds like he could be punching his ticket out of Memphis.
Might as well...TA already punched him out. What an underachiever...OJ has crazy talent, yet keeps wasting it.

Roid rage in action.

i'd be stupid silly excited if we landed Mayo. Honestly can't think of the best trade scenario that they would truly like. Best thought would be a 3 way trade of some sort with a 3rd team landing Z-BO, us landing Mayo, and Memphis getting Davis, etc

2 way trade - Davis and Wafer for Mayo. We sign Sheed or some other big bought out next month

Memphis gets a cheaper Zbo replacement and SG prospect. I really like Wafer and want to keep him, but couldn't pass up opportunity to get Mayo

3 way idea - http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=4ey7kke

BOS - Mayo,Humphries
MEM - BBD,Murphy,JO(bought out)
NJ - Zbo and draft picks
Can't stop, Rondo!

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
This is how you know the Griz are not trading Mayo for anything less than they think is fair:

Quote
Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley said Mayo will continue practicing with the team during his suspension.

"O.J. had a lack of judgment but has shown complete accountability," Heisley said in a statement. "We will continue to support O.J. during this time as we have from the moment he joined the team in 2008. He has unselfishly done everything we have asked of him, and we expect him to grow as a player and a person from this experience."

That's what they call in the biz 'saying the right thing to keep the asset's value'.

The fact that it is legal makes me believe that it could be in a supplement and he could be telling the truth. But with that said how the heck do you not look at the label when you're a player and in a league that you know is strict with what they call enhancement drugs?

I'm inclined to believe Mayo knew what he was doing (or the trainer giving him the stuff did), but there have been cases of supplement makers adding substances like DHEA or even actual, illegal steroids to their mixes, without labeling them.  A lot of mixtures don't contain what they say they do on the label.  It's not a major problem but it has happened in the past.

Every NBA rookie has to go through a class that covers everything from how to manage their money to how to manage groupies and hangers on.

You know they took a seminar where the guy said "DON'T BUY YOUR OWN SUPPLEMENTS! ONLY USE SUPPLEMENTS FROM THE TRAINERS!"

I love when they blame an over the counter supplement or something like that.

Plausible Deniability.

Wasn't he accused by some business associate of using steroids?

Plus, just how his jaw line has changed since his college days. I don't know...I think he uses them...just a feeling.

That excuse is getting so [dang] OLD!!!!11!!!

Oh i was at the store/resturant/moms house/the bank and i accidentaly bought/took/was forcefed/eat a BigMac and thats how i just tested positive for a muscle building steriod.

I take full responsibility for my actions (even though as i clearly stated above, it wasnt directly my fault) and sit out 10games while no one cares.

Who on this board, has EVER gotten steroids by accident? 10Games dosnt have an effect, it dosnt make the fans care in the slightest. It should be a full season BAN for testing positive for a preformance enhancing drug, the league is WAY to lax on this.

That's all well and good except he didn't test positive for a steroid, he tested positive for a steroid precursor that is completely legal in America but banned by the NBA.  It's entirely possible that he got it from an over-the-counter workout supplement, especially when you look at the track record of supplement makers.

It's also possible he was doing something sketchy and got caught, but the supplement market's almost totally unregulated and things like this do happen.

What he said. Could have been recommended to him by a trainer or physician or whatever without any knowledge of the substance being in the supplement...

On the topic of what I'm about to ask. Could this have an affect on him being on the trading block and scare teams away from him with the trouble he's been getting in lately?

Yeah but then the trainer gets blamed in the end somehow, whether through OJ's entourage or whatever, and then everyone on the Grizzlies team gets tested, and some more test positive, and some more miss games and its all a scandal.

That's why trainers' jobs depend on them knowing full well what they put into players bodies and what they do to help condition and heal those bodies.
