Orlando Trades: Jason Richardson, Brandon Bass, Daniel Orton, Malik Allen, 2 1st round picks

Indiana Trades: Danny Granger, Tyler Hansborough, James Posey

Indiana gets 2 capable starters without long term commitments, a long term prospect in Orton, and 2 st round picks. Plus, it gets rid of its biggest money drains in Danny Granger and James Posey, further expanding on its already extensive cap flexibility this summer and next.

The Magic get a scorer who can create his own shot, and some tough defenders it desperately needs.

The Magic would end up playing Granger at the 4 and Q-Rich at the 3 too much. I don't think Hansborough/Posey would crack the rotation all that much.

I see the rotation as

Nelson
Redick
Granger
Andersen
Howard

with Turkoglu and Arenas both getting 25 mins or so of burn a night, without Nelson on the floor. Posey gets 15

I don't see any real incentive for Indiana to make the deal.  The Pacers are getting back a couple of decent players for a legit star, and are giving up a decent young PF in the process.  (For whatever it's worth, Hansborough and Bass produce very similarly per minute.)

Indiana would never make that trade. They aren't giving up Danny Granger unless they get a true franchise player back in return.

Larry Bird rates him too highly.

I guess I don't know what the market really is for Danny Granger

Is he truly a 'star'? His 08-09 and 09-10 were looking like he was going to challenge Kevin Durant for the scoring title, and as little as 08-09 he looked like the second best SF in the league behind LeBron, supplanting Melo and ahead of the maturing Durant. Now I think he's closer to 5th or 6th, with guys like Rudy Gay or even Wilson CHandler coming at or above his level this season.

Regarding Hansborough and Bass, I think Hansborough is just icing on the cake for Orlando. Their per minute numbers are similar, but Hansborough hasn't been a consistent part of Indy's rotation until very recently.

Obie has been changing power forwards like he's changing lanes. Brandon Bass will give him a fresh face that has the confidence to go out there and steal that starting spot, even if as a starter Psycho T's numbers are similar.

Richardson is unable to be traded with another player as a result of his earlier trade (until feb 18).
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I think this would be better (2 trades to get around the richardson problem)

D. Williams for Nelson, Bass, Malik Allen, 1st

and

Bell, Okur for Richardson

Saves Utah some money and gets them some quality players and a 1st for Deron who is probably gone soon.  Brings a legitimate star next to Dwight in orlando.

Yeah but that wouldn't stop this hypothetical.

You'd just do 2 trades.

1st trade: Jason Richardson for Danny Granger, Tyler Hansborough

2nd Trade: Brandon Bass, Daniel Orton, 2 1st rd picks for James Posey

Teams do that all the time.

Cant Richardson only be traded in a one for one? Or is that not a rule? I always thought when a player was traded he could only be traded in a one for one. Let me know if Im wrong please...

Otherwise, i dont really think this will help Orlando all that much. Richardson is a step below Granger, Granger would give them only about 3 or 4 more points a game and probably take more shots. Bass is much better than Hansbourough and Posey isnt the catch that he used to be. Orlando needs size in the front court, not another  wing player to replace one they just traded for.

I think you're wrong, but someone would need to look at the CBA.

My understanding (which is from the ESPN trade machine) is that alone Richardson can be traded for more than 1 player, but he cannot be paired with another outgoing member from the magic in one single transaction.

Danny Granger has definitely taken some steps back since he looked like he might elevate himself to being one of the top players in the league, but his value hasn't dropped enough to make this trade feasible (even if it might improve both teams).

I wish we had a "money drain" like Granger.

O'Neal is owed another 7 million dollars next year, that's a hefty price to pay for a guy who doesn't play. Especially when you're giving up the best player in the deal.
