Erden is a +11, +12, +22, and +9 in his last four games.  That is an ER of +15 for the last three.

Congrats big fella!!!!

Keep up the hard work.  It is paying off.

He is averaging 8.6 rpg in the last 3 games (only 22 mpg). He has a really good motor and reminds me a lot of Varejao in that he's pretty active, has good footwork, and hands.

I hope Doc rewards him and keeps playing him a few minutes a game until JO returns.

I think Semih has exceeded everyone's expectations except maybe for his mom's.

He has already contributed to th Celtics more than Giddens and Walker combined.

Or Shaq returns (now that Perk is also taking minutes.)

i think when shaq returns, there will still be roughly 5-10 min at the C spot each night. shaq will only play around 20, same with perk for the time being. and we all know how much foul trouble plays a role with our guys. erdin will def see time. it may not be consistent, but he will.

To be honest, I am shocked with how Erden has performed in the regular season after watching him briefly in the summer league and also in the Olympics.

But I have to say, he has now proven to be a decent player and we are more than have way through the season, that is a pretty good sampling.

Once he figures out how to handle himself offensively around the rim, he has the potential to put up 10-15 a night.

He's a very active defender for a big man, he plays really long and affects shots when he doesnt' block them, he's a decent rebounder and a pretty good passer as well. He's also suprisingly tough and willing to mix it up. Great motor. I love the kid. I'm really suprised.

I have to say if you told me my center rotation moving forward will be Perkins and Erden, with another 3rd string moose behind them, I'd say "Ok", let's work on other areas of the team.

A very pleasnt suprise and the last thing I expected.

Yeah, but I think Shaq has played way too many minutes so far and will probably be looking at 15-20 mpg the rest of the way. I also think Perk will be eased back very slowly. He's on 12-16 mpg mark now and I don't think he'll exceed 24 minutes for another month. These two things should provide some limited time for Semih. I enjoyed watching how Doc used 5 different guys at the 4/5 yesterday (KG, Erden, Perk, Baby, Luke). This kept everyone fresh and seemed to bring a lot of energy to our team.

I agree, I still thing he will see time. Not alot as you say, but "some" time. We'll need him here and there and he's really earned it I think. He's earned it as much a JO at this point...

Agreed, but I think he's better than just a "decent" rebounder.

I would love to see Erden develop, or at least shot with some confidence, a face up jumper. He's taken only 1 all year and made it. And judging by his FT form, he has the mechanics to knock it down with regularity, but just needs to shoot it. If he can make this shot at a good % and improve his post moves (stating by not going 100 mph around the rim and simply slowing down) then we could really have something in him.

I think when Semih plays all out 100%, he is an asset. His energy level seems a bit inconsistent, thought, to warrant real excitement as of this writing. I guy like Varajao brings it every night.  I think Doc is trying to instill this mentality in Semih. So is KG.  He gets a little down sometimes, for example in last night's game versus Cleveland.  He has to understand that his minutes are always going to be limited, and he needs to be all out every moment he is on the floor. Not sure if his wiring will get him to that place. I certainly hope it does.

He's been good the last few games, but I'd hesistate to say he's even decent yet. For the season he's still 40th out of 62 among Cs.

I want to see if he can maintain his solid defensive rebounding of the last few games.

i agree. from the little i saw and the stats erden put up before joining the team, i figured he was one more tall stiff who would do very little.

once more ainge shows why the celtics pay him big bucks and not me. :)

as i have watched erden, i am impressed by how his defense has improved in 1/2 season. early on, he would put his arms up and almost ran away as opponents attacked the basket. now, he positions himself much better and forces opponents into more difficult shots over him.

he also started off soft, avoiding contact. not so much any more.

i think when his injuries heals, he plays more, and he receives more coaching, his offense will pick up as well.

i dont see him as a starter on a championship team, but i do see someone who could serve as a good backup on one.

so far so good and i am delighted i was wrong once more.  ;D

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Yep, agreed, he has a way to go and some development for sure. But he has some decent tools for a seven footer. It will be interesting to see where he is in a few years. I'm just shocked he's even servicable at this point, this year. I didn't expect it.

I like the length he brings around the rim and he gets up and down the floor pretty well for a guy his size, active feet on D...

Right now he's almost like a little dog thoough - he's all arms and legs and moving around. I'm curious how much he can progress mentally in the next year or two and if he slows down enough to maximize his skills, which are pretty good.

I'd like to see him start using an elbow in the back of big men in the post to get leverage on them. Right now he just stand tall and moves his feet with his arms up and guys are getting around him or pushing him under the basket.

One arm up on the ball, the other elbow into the back, feet wide, etc...

He has the physical tools to put up 10-15 and 5-8 boards a night and to rebound and defend. Let's see where his head takes him.

At this point he has done one incredibly important thing: he's made Doc comfortable benching Shaq when the big guy needs a night off - even against a good team. We can win with Semih as our starting C, more often than not. And it'll be that much easier now that Perkins can give us some minutes.

Even if he never plays a second in the playoffs, having a healthier Shaq will pay huge dividends.

That is a contribution that no one would have expected at the beginning of the year.
