The Celtics had faint interest in free-agent forward Peja Stojakovic, who was bought out by the Raptors recently.

According to a source, Stojakovic is headed to the Mavericks, who are looking for a small forward in the wake of Caron Butler's knee injury.

The Celtics are keeping their eyes open for available players.

So who would be cut if they wanted to sign someone ?  If they had to cut someone, I would think it would be Wafer.

and do the C's really need another wing?  shooter?

Wafer most likely.  Unless of course it is for a big man, then I am not so sure.

They keep open eyes but I doubt they will pick anyone up. Unless Delonte doesnt recover as well as people think he should and gets cut, but I highly doubt thats the case.

I think Harangody is the most vulnerable to being waived.

The Celtics strength and depth up front and Harangody's inability to play serviceable defense makes him far less dependable / useful in a playoff series than Von Wafer.

Disagree with this.  I don't think they'd let go of a shot maker.....and our depth up front has been non-existent due to injury.  Unless there's a trade beforehand, I don't think they'll pick up anyone...(except maybe Sheed if they can't get healthy up front.)

reading the article linked by RealGM, Washburn names Rip Hamilton as a name the C's would be interested in if he gets bought out

works for me, right now he's a poor man's Ray Allen but he's got playoff experience and a little chip on his shoulder that could serve us well for the stretch run

At this point I'd have to say Wafer is much more of a "shot maker" than Harangody.  The C's are looking to win this year, so whoever isn't going to play this year will be let go.  Letting Luke go isn't a huge risk since he's not likley to ever be an impact player at the NBA level so we aren't risking our future.  If team management doens't feel he's an NBA player they won't hesitate letting him go.

Since when is Harangody considered a shot maker?  If we were playing Toronto every night, maybe.

I would love having Rip here, but I am skeptical that a buyout happens.  He's got at least two years left (I don't know the details on his third non-guaranteed year), which means that 1) he's going to want a lot of money, and 2) any buyout is going to be carried on Detroit's cap both this year and next.  They'd be better off trying to trade him for an expiring deal.

The third year is partially guaranteed for $9 million of the $12.65 million.

Roughly 75% guaranteed.

Rip would certainly suggest more of a Wafer replacement than Gody, but I always like to look a little deeper as to who his agent is and whether since such news getting out is more a favor for the player or agent than helpful to the C's actually signing him.

Gody unfortunately reminds me more and more of that undersized, little temporary spare tire that manufacturers pack into their cars.   He may get you a few miles down the road, but  he's got a big red warning sign on his side and is so undersized as to give you a rough ride in just such an emergency.  You don't want to have to pull him out of the trunk more than once or twice and for only very brief stretches.

I don't think anyone is going to take him for an expiring deal. Only the Nets were willing in their desperation to get Melo.

Agreed. Harangody can't play the kind of defense the Celtics want. I still don't see him as a long-term NBA player.
