To me, it seemed like a very well called game (except when it came to Marquis Daniels), but I'm guessing Jazz fans are irate. Honestly, though, I only saw 2-3 fouls called against the Jazz that were really bad. What do you guys think?
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Rondo and Williams always have a weird matchup. Either Williams draws cheap fouls on Rondo (ramming into  him yet somehow he gets the call) or Rondo drawis the foul on Williams.  That happens with Chris Paul too. I didn't really notice alot of bias in our favor. Ray had all hand on that block. Tommy is ridiculous.

Jazz got hosed by the Officials early and often. They lost pretty much all the 50/50 calls. Like always the Refs found a way to even out the FT differential when the game was already decided. That was most noticeable, until Kenny Mauer got personal with Q. All of them are crooks.

Anyone know what the line for the game was? The line must've been monstrous.

Yes, they got hosed. I really hate NBA refs. Is it too much to ask for them to call games fairly? I'm glad Celts won, but come on..

I didn't see blatant favoritism.  There were definitely phantom calls the other way like a few clean blocks (including the one by Ray).

Agreed.. If Rondo/Ray/Pierce had received those fouls that Deron did, the boards would have exploded about how bad the officiating was. I think at least the first two on D-Will were questionable, I cannot recollect the third, but I think it was a block call. The fourth was without any doubt legit.

The Celtics definitely got the better of last nights officiating, anyone stating otherwise is just ignoring the obvious.

I'd say no to both, only because "blatantly favored" sounds like the refs did it on purpose.  The calls absolutely consistently went our way - the D-Will fouls in particular were pretty soft and took the Jazz even further out of their rhythm.

But just like when calls go against us, I think it's a mistake to call it intentional.  It's just inconsistent and sometimes incompetent refereeing, like it always is.

For one game, I was pretty pleased with the refereeing.  The Celtics seemed to be getting a lot of favorable calls for once.  'Quis got picked on but, besides that, I think you had to have been pretty happy the way they called the game as a Celtics fan.

Yes, refs seemed partial to the Cs, except of course Ken Mauer with this incredibly OBVIOUS personal problem with Quis. I mean, what WAS that? How petty and stupid can these so-called "pros" get??

About the betting: It doesn't have to relate to "the line" at all. Sometimes, they could bet the "over/under", which requires only that a lot of points be scored in order to win. If they've got that kind of bet in, they'll ticky-tack the game to death, hitting BOTH sides. Which in the end is pretty much what happened once Mauer got Quis in his sights.
Anything's possibbulllllll

Looking at some books, we've only been within 10 pts (in either direction) of the over-under twice in the last 16 games.  We've been over 20 pts away 7 out of those 16.  If the refs are manipulating games with that number in mind they're doing a horrible job.

The Marquis thing must be because of his reputation for being so vocal and demonstrative against the refs  8)
Only things that stood out were a good charge call against PP that williams took.  An extremely bad call was against Williams, he drove Davis was UNDER the hoop so obviously inside the circle and he was called for a charge.  Al looked bad.

I was going to make this thread, for once and it's not often IMO we were favored big time I mean every little ticky tack foul they got, no calls they got, even calls where we were going up fumbling the ball we were bailed out.

Thats not to take away from how well we executed but it might have took the air out of them.

  • Another undersized Celtic...
Well, since the Jazz are second in the league in fouls committed, they probably are under the microscope a bit even before tip off. Rondo was also able to exploit Williams a bit, brushing him off screens and forcing him to reach. There were a few blown calls that I noticed, so that means there was probably more, but more often than not, they usually go against us. I don't know where we stand in fouls committed, but the league knows we play very aggressive defense so I think we are usually under that same microscope. Plus, who is going to get the calls from the officials, Gordon Hayward, or a starting lineup with 5 current/former allstars?

I still saw several plays called in their favor.  The only real bad call for them was the Davis charge and maybe a no call on Hayward, but he's a rookie so no surprise there.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale
