Cle?
no matter the money6 they have nobody will want to play there
Yeah, that's going to be their big issue. I couldn't rate them at the bottom, though, because they're going to have a very good draft pick and a ton of salary flexibility.
But having all the cap space in the world is going to do you no good as far as attracting top level FA who want to play for a crown. You have a lot of collaboration going on with the World Wide Wes network putting all the talent in four or fve NBA cities. Cleveland was screwed by the Lebron James situation to the point that will probably not survive a contraction that could occur soon.
Cleveland, Sacremento, Washington, Toronto, New Jersey, and soon Denver will effectively be farm teams where rookies will get their education and be put in the World Wide Wes system.
The Lakers
are at the top of the food chain while Lebron has his corporation. The Spurs, Mavericks, and the Celtics are the Good Ole Boys and the rest of the teams from the Magic and Thunder down to Philadelphia are considered middle class teams of the NBA.
I don't know how they're doing from a business standpoint, but I suddenly feel like Toronto is not so far down and out. This is due mainly to three players: Ed Davis, DeRozan and Weems. Davis was expected to be decent, but no one knew how long it would/take...but I think he's shown it was a good pick. Weems has turned out to be a good player, better than expected I would say. And I would say that DeRozan has exceeded the expectations of many. Toronto was smart to pick DeRozan as this went against conventional wisdom, which dropped him out of the #1 spot he had occupied after coming out of high school and sent his stock into a free fall...suddenly he was a big gamble, too young, great talent but did he know how to play the game? Then, of course they have Bargnani, who imo should be traded for a legtimate center prospect to start alongside Ed Davis in the future. They'll have a decent pick this year and they've got some talent. They can right the ship.
Edit: Forgot about the recent play of Amir Johnson....
so: Johnson, Ed Davis, Weems and DeRozan....a good foursome I think....that would go better with a real center than with Bargnani imo.....
