no surgery for jo..4 weeks of rehab...strengthen glutes and quads

How is this going to help his knees?

Strength training around an arthritic knee helps the joint to track properly, and reduces pressure/inflammation on the ligaments and joints.

Honestly, though, any elite athlete should have been doing that sort of training all along, so I have a feeling this is just PR spin for "He's going to play in pain."

Precisely. This looks like the last hurrah for JO.  He won't be a big piece of whatever comes out of this season...pretty much just along for the ride.

Wasted MLE, I guess. Was Eric Dampier or Brad Miller available when we signed JO?

Seriously, are you entertaining the thought of Dampier for the MLE. The same guy who was signed - in desperation - by Miami for the vet minimum?

Brad Miller you can make a case for, but JO had the better upside to help this team.

It appears this will be two straight seasons of one-and-done with the MLE.

BTW, anyone know who we used the MLE on in 2008-09? It's really bothering me.

I didn't say we should have signed Dampier for the MLE. I merely asked if those two guys were available when we signed JO.

so Danny just had a press conference and he said the 3 worst words involving a knee there is 'bone on bone' in regards to JO and why they never considered major surgery.

yep. that made sense in terms of how JO was  describing his pain. The cartilage is just not there.

don't know if there is any surgery to help that. microfracture?

Surgery won't replace cartilage, at least with current technology. I understand that there are some meniscus replacement options out there, but they are relatively new and unproven.

You can have the knee scoped to reduce the abrasion, or get one of these injections that sort of lube up the joint: http://www.synviscone.com/.

Hey, at least he had a career. Brandon Roy is in the same boat after four years in the NBA.

Dampier wasn't waived until September.  Miller wanted a third year.

Thanks, I didn't know Miller wanted an extra year.

Any kind of shot he can get so he can at least give a decent 10-12 minutes during the playoffs?

JO has already shown that he can contribute. What has held him back has been hopes that he could get healthier. We have held him out of games he could have played in for long term considerations. Without the hope of him being healthy, we will start playing him more since it is what it is.

The truth is, if he is behind KG, Shaq, Perk, and Baby at the 4/5, we won't have minutes for him every game anyway.

Based on his health, we probably want him to retire after this season. But he can still contribute.

Don't forget that nothing has changed from a the last few games he played except a rehab plan, and he had some good defensive contributions.

We definitely overpaid for him, but I don't think we also got Shaq for close to nothing.

Glad he is avoiding the surgery route. Let's hope his 4 weeks rehab works and he can give us 10 good minutes a night.

Scal was our MLE, until we signed Sheed we had never used the full MLE on 1 player well we had Scal. which is something that has always bothered me, we tend not to carry 2 MLE players at once for more then 1 season, so i dont expect us to sign anyone with the full MLE this off season

he weights less so there is less pressure on the knees. also he has played 19,587 more minutes(counting playoffs)

mostly agree, but "overpaid" is a matter of opinion, i guess...you pay the market value to get what you are looking for. he was gonna get MLE $$ from someone. when we win it all this year nobody will say a word about how much JO is getting paid. he is a big body that can rebound and play good solid defense in limited minutes, offense is gravy, though he is capable of putting the ball in the hole.

Didn't we use part of it to resign Eddie (after Posey turned the full MLE down due to not enough years)?

We split the MLE between Eddie and one of the draft picks that year.

Ainge also made a play for Corey Maggette that year.  How would people feel about Maggette being signed to something like a five-year full MLE contract then?
