if JO does end up going with surgery(ending his season) then we need to look into a buyout. its the best way to get a roster spot to bring in another big. even with KG almost back we would still only have 11 healthy players and with our bigs propensity for getting into foul trouble we really need another active body. what are your thoughts?

I don't see JO agreeing to a full buyout of his contract; why would he? 

Really, I don't see him agreeing to any buyout, but let's say he agrees to a buyout of $9 million on the approximately $11.5 - $12.0 million his contract guarantees him.

That means that we'd have paid $4.5 million this year for no possible chance at a playoff contribution, and will have $4.5 million applied to next year's cap, as well. 

To me, that's not very smart business.  If surgery is likely to help JO, I'd rather have him contributing next year (and maybe in this year's playoffs) for around $6 million each season, rather than playing for somebody else for $4.5 million.

You don't make such a move for a 10-day player, only if you think it's a big who will be in your playoffs rotation.  Also, how well Perk comes back will help to determine if they need a center more than a big 3 for the playoffs, so I don't think you rush into anything.  The most troubling part of this is Semih coming apart at the seams.  It's looking like his groin may be chronic to go along with his shoulder in need of surgery.  I wonder if now they are thinking it would have been better to hae bit the bullet and sent Semih off to surgery back in October.

Potentially, but those things aren't enforceable, and could even be seen by Stern as circumventing the CBA if there was proof of the agreement.

whether JO opts for surgery or not, I would like
to keep him. He has a good attitude, and there will
always come a point where he can help. Investing in JO
via surgery is worth it. He may come back stronger in the
long run. Just like KG did.

First you have to really believe JO intended to play out this contract from the start...Im probably solo on this one but i never felt his intentions were 100%honorable.I think he is trying to go out in style($$$)by retiring with as much money as he can grab and play as little basketball as possible.I never heard of a player signing a contract for two seasons and talk about where he's retiring a few months into the contract.

 If JO contributes in this yrs.playoffs and finals if they make it i will be the first to say i was wrong.If he's available for two seasons playoffs while a Celtics i will write an apology.I just don't buy any of it.
