As long as he can get back the playoffs, have surgery.  KG and Perk will be back soon.  They can hold down the fort.

He was brought here to win #18.  He still may be able to do that.

Even worst case scenario Shaq and Semih are hurt this version of JO is still next to worthless so do what ever you have to do to get right ASAP.

It depends upon what level of JO we'd be getting without surgery.  If it's the guy who misses 50+% of his games, then yeah, get the surgery.  If it's the guy who played recently, who played good defense and rebounded fairly well, I'd probably hold off.

As Doc and JO both said, if JO gets back during the last two weeks of the season, it's going to be almost impossible for him to contribute in the playoffs, anyway.

What I don't understand, though, is why -- if surgery is likely to help -- the team and JO didn't get it six weeks ago.  It may have hurt a tiny bit in the regular season, but it would have had him healthy (or close to it) with 10 weeks left in the regular season.

He should get the surgery because JO's game suffers more than most if he doesn't feel 100% perfect.

Am I the only one that wishes JO would do something stupid and somehow void his contract so we could just let him go?
Andy Bernard doesnt lose constests. He wins them, or he quits them because they're unfair.

This is why he's considered soft Roy. As another poster said the guy talks a great game. He's gonna play through the pain he's wants to contribute blah blah blah. Put your money where your mouth is Jermaine. Suck it up and tough it out.

As has been also previously stated by another poster he was having these problems with the knee LAST SEASON with Miami. He could have had surgery in the offseason. Maybe even the beginning of the season. The funniest part here is that he claims he injured it making a cut while playing. Laughable. When has he even played? Preseason a few games here & there? Gimme a break.

He came into camp fat and out of shape. When your a big guy with his injury past and balky knees that's a HUGE no no. This isn't rocket science. Your a professional athlete that's most likely seven feet tall. Your a veteran. You've had knee issues in the past. You don't under any circumstances come into camp overweight.

That's a guy not careing enough about his team and where he fits into it to me. I'm tired of listening to all his talk if I was in that lockerroom I'd call him out in front of all the other guys and tell him to grow a pair wrap up the knee and suck it up. You can tell by his teammates body language around him that they have considered it. He's avoided like the plague.

They're all old. Everyones knees hurt. KG's knees hurt. Shaqs knees hurt, Pauls, Rays. They don't complain and go to the media with a big sob story.

He's had plenty of time to rest it and take care of it. We took the safe approach with it by giving him EXTRA rest. And it's still an issue. That's called procrastinating. Or just being plain soft. What it's not is being tough. Or being a warrior.

I say earn your paycheck throw some icy hot on that thing and a brace and dive on the floor ala Dave Cowens. Then talk to us about being a tough guy. He woulda been blacklisted on any of the old school classic Celtics teams. What a toolbag.

I agree.. If this guy is so tough and willing to play through the pain then why isnt he playing? He's just trying to get a free paycheck/ring.

I'm gonna challenge the notion that the only problem people have with JO is that he's "soft" on this Blog.  ::)

Funny how I've never seen Jermaine look in pain, limp, or even wince while he has played a game with the Celtics thus far. That's strange, considering some days he can't "walk up the stairs."

He's not the only person who decides whether he can play or not. If that was the case, KG would have suited up vs. the Bulls back in 2009.

Doc, Eddie, and the doctors have a say.

Tuesday we will get an answer. Until then, we will just have to wait. Speculating now does nothing. What he is saying makes sense. Either he will play through the pain, or he will have surgery if the benefits outweigh the risks. He is getting multiple opinions first before making arguably one of the most difficult decisions of his life.

I think we can win the championship without him, but with him (and all the other bigs), we are the clear-cut favorites IMO.

It is pretty much the only problem I have with him. We need someone to absorb 10-12 minutes a night. He doesnt have to be stellar he's gonna be goin up against everyone elses bench. He just has to show up, play a lil defense and help out with a slow-paced half-court offense. Its not asking all that much that he man and play.

I broke my wrist one time and couldnt afford to take any time off of my job which requires me to do some heavy lifting and a lot of working with my hands. I put an ace bandage on it, took some ibuprofen and went to work. Doctor told me I needed surgery and I never got it. Just sayin...

All he has to do is say "I feel great today i'm ready to go"

This hasnt just been happening for a week it's been happenin all year. It's too much pain for him he just cant admit it. That doesnt make him tough..

It's funny how people are calling JO "tough" when he has a reputation around the league for sitting games out with a hangnail.

Maybe the reputation JO has with fans is a false one.  Here's what Stephen Jackson, a former teammate, said:

Quote
"I remember in Indiana, in the playoffs, he was taking shots to play,’’ said Jackson. "I know that he played hurt for at least two or three years. It’s sad it’s starting to catch up with him, but I’d rather have a guy that’s going to put it on the line and play hurt sometimes than someone who won’t.’’

Again, that doesn't sound like a soft guy or somebody talking about playing for PR reasons.

The problem I have with it is the fact we gave him EXTRA time. He's had more than enough time to get in shape get healthy and get on track. We took the "safe route" with him. Didn't rush him back into the lineup at all. I don't want to hear the excuses anymore.

I saw clearly that he came into camp fat and out if shape. Just look at that pic of him dressed as Mr T for Halloween. He looks chunky and flabby. I could barely even tell it was him at first. And his pudgy face and multiple chins that I see on him now are clearly not helping his case.

He's a professional. It's his job to bevrrsponsible and take care of his body. That's what all that money in his contract is for. He didn't do that. This was the same knee issue as last year. He just never took care of it. That's when my sympathy ends. To me he's just a procrastinator and or soft. He's essentially thus far completely wasted our MLE.

I'm not a big Rasheed guy but at least he'd get on the court and play. He might mail in the regular season but as a teammate at least you can stand beside him because he's willing to be part of the team. Jermaine thus far has shown very little interest in this fact. And if you watch how other teammates react to him on the bench you can tell he's a bit of an outcast. That tells me something. That he's teammates either don't respect him or don't beleive him. I'm of the opinion that it's a bit of both.
