tbh I don't think he will ever be a decent shooter.
He has been practicing his shot and free throws forever and still can't get them to go in.

Actually, the only thing that has gotten worse is his free-throws ... his field-goal and three-point precentage has increased significantly from last year. After watching him match three-pointers with Durant during All-Star Weekend last year, it was clear to me that he can shoot. We need him to develop his jump-shot and free-throws, because we need him to be considered as an outside threat and a threat at the line ... something he's not at the present time. Hit-or-miss, if he's open, he's got to keep taking the shots, otherwise he'll never be the complete Point Guard that he's capable of being ... and that we need him to be.

  • Rondo = Good
If he doesn't take the shots that opposing defenses give him, our offense will suffer greatly because it'll be too easy to lock down simply by playing off Rondo.

He needs to at least make an effort to keep the man defending him from helping off of him too much, either by driving to the hoop or taking the open jumper.

According to 82Games.com, his jump shooting has markedly improved this year:

37% eFG each of the last 2 years, 46% so far this year.

By comparison, Garnett is at 48%, Pierce at 50% and Allen at 57%.

He still has a ways to go, but the numbers do indicate some improvement.

The problem is that everyone takes too much notice when he's not shooting well. I've been happy with both his shot selection and his FG% on those shots. He'll only get better, too.

He should be taking those shots. How else is he going to get better?  Remember everyone mad at Davis for taking jumpers a couple of years ago, but then were glad because it paid off in the playoffs.  Keep shooting, Rondo!

From what I've seen Rondo has mostly been taking those jumpers when we have a nice lead and the shot clock is winding down.  Personally I hope he takes 15 foot jumpers consistently to get his confidence up.  If he could master the 15 footer then his game, and our team, would have a whole new dynamic that would be difficult to guard.

Some of his jumpers last night weren't good ones to take (i.e. 3pointers), but we had a 20pt lead so it was tough to get mad.

Glen Davis on the other hand has been taking jumpers outside of his range, when he should be playing more under the hoop.  I thought towards the end of last year and into the playoffs Glen did a better job of using his body to draw fouls, etc.  He seems to be far more productive cutting towards the hoop for 1-dribble "catch and go" plays.  I'm not trying to discriminate against Davis for his jumpers and not Rondo, but I think they are different situations.  Now, if Rondo stopped penetrating & dishing and instead was calling for the ball to take jumpers then I'd definitely have a problem with him.

Rondo is hitting 45% of his shots between 16 and 23 feet.  That's pretty decent.  It could be fluky, but hitting 45% of deep jumpers should eventually keep opposing defenses honest.

For comparison, BBD is shooting 38% from that distance.

he takes "good shots" and has been doing well lately. if he doesn't shoot at all in games, how will he ever get better?!?!  u can practice all you want, but shots in real games when they matter is different.

Have you been watching the Celtics games lately? Rondo's outside jumper has been going in at a nice consistent rate. Why wouldnt you want him to take those shots especially when he is making them almost 50% of the time.

Id rather having Rondo take that open outside jumper with his defender 5 to 7 feet away from him then Big Baby heaving up those contested 23 footers at 38%.

why does rondo continue to shoot outside jumpers?

Because he's wide open and making them?

That is just a completely ridiculous reason to continue shooting those shots!

I have way more problems with the shots Rondo DOESN'T take than the ones he does.
