Since moves are also made for many reasons, how about Davis' tenuous relationship between Davis and Doc. Doc and players (see RA's comments in Herald today) considering Davis' recent "individual" play needs to get back to tough play = rebounds, picks, and less shooting. Davis not happy about how he's criticized by Doc.

Davis is a free agent at the end of the season. Should we get something for him before he chooses to bolt? If you were Danny, who would you replace him with if you could?

Here is the deal with Davis (and Nate).  Some guys are starters in the league and some are bench players.  Both can be valuable but in the end, bench players are there for a reason.  They aren't as good as the starters.

In this league, bench players may do well as a starter in spurts.  But in the end, they get exposed as what they are; bench players.

I'm not hating on Davis (or Nate) but they are what they are.  And any ideas Davis has on cashing probably aren't realistic.  He is not a starter in this league (at least not on a decent team).  He is a guy that brings energy and skill but as a reserve.

I don't think Davis is anything super special. But the role he plays on this team + his health make him hard to replace. I doubt there is a trade that could bring back equal value to this team for what Davis means for this season.

On the other hand if a season ending injury to KG, Rondo, or Pierce were to 100% sink our title hopes, then it could make sense to move him.

Alternatively there are a handful of combo forwards that could provide the needed depth at PF Davis provides, plus size in a backup role behind Pierce that I'd consider moving Davis for - however most have contracts that would knock us out of the Dwight hunt, so I don't like those either.

So in summary, Davis isn't such a great player that I'd never want to move him, but I just don't see a deal where we could get better in the short term.

It'd probably be easier to trade JO + picks, or KP since there is more depth at Center. Although with JO's injuries, trading KP doesn't look great either. So now I'm pretty much down to JO and Nate as my only two trade-able guys that other teams might want where we could improve for this year.

Yes I agree it is funny but I have to say that his refusal to stop jacking up shots make me jump on the "Davis Hate" bandwagon, at least until KG comes back and sends him back to the bench.

He will not, and should not, be traded though.

Some quotes from the Herald article I thought were telling or interesting:

Quote
Part of Davis’ issue — and this is a recurring matter — is his tendency to gravitate more toward the shooting aspect of his game when things are going well.

As coach Doc Rivers noted Saturday, Davis — not Paul Pierce [stats] or Ray Allen — has led the Celtics in shot attempts over the last five games.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing. The Celtics were on a four-game winning streak prior to their loss in Chicago.

But perhaps another readjustment is in order.

“Well, he did (end up on the short end Saturday night),” said Rivers. “Boozer played well. That one stretch changed the game a little bit, but Baby played a lot of minutes. We have to shorten Baby’s minutes a little bit. We need him to be more of a pick-setter, and right now he’s more of a shooter. We need him to get back to setting picks.”

Quote
Ray Allen, also asked about Davis, replied without actually mentioning Davis by name. He did, however, appear to send a definite message.

“I thought they were a lot tougher than us and attacked us,” said Allen. “When they hit us, we went down to the ground. Whether we liked the call or not, they were attacking us.”

Baby also says he wants to be amongst the KGs and Boozers of the league, and while I admire setting a high goal, I kind of want to tell him "you will never be that", not in the negative sense too much but in that he is trying to do too much.  Frankly he just does not have the physical tools and talent to be that quality of a player, he should just be himself.  He should hustle, take charges, knock down the open J, and yes, REBOUND.  Davis should be a much better rebounder and the fact that he doesn't give the effort towards rebounding is ridiculous since that should probably be what he is best at, given his talents and physical tools.

Remembering P.J. Brown...

If he had the body and the mind to shoot and play with as much reckless abandon as Glen Davis does, I think he could have contributed just as much numbers (plus a little more on the defensive end).

Big Baby has the potential to be a great player IN HIS ROLE, but he seems to believe he is going to be a great player, period.

Doc calls out Baby in the press fairly often from what I've seen.  Baby may not like it, but I'm starting to think that Doc does it that way because Davis seems to respond to it well on the court.

Yup.  Davis is the type of person who needs to be reminded of his role on a weekly basis.  Even before the offseason Davis wondered what his role was, which seemed to confuse Doc b/c you'd think Davis would know by now.

I don't mind if Davis wants to be a KG or Boozer.  In fact I don't mind if he thinks he can get there.  That's great.  I DO MIND that he thinks he's almost there already.  THAT is the problem to me.  I would never tell someone they couldn't do something though.

I like Gomes, but he really doesn't rebound either.
