Okay I'm an avid sports guy and became a Celtic fan last year. Got tired of the Knicks. Rivers coming back was great !! Paul Pierce is conditioned and on top of his game. I still think they need a 3 point shooter for the playoffs. Other teams are gunna be on Allen like glue, we know that. Pierce will hit his 3's. And Nate will contribute too. But I still think they need a 3 pt. shooter desperately. I think they have like the lowest amount of 3 pointers attempted in league. Knicks double theres and I so wanted Boston to get Ray Felton. Delonte West will also contribute from 3. But I still say they need someone. Well I guess it doesn't hurt to try to spread the word, if this accomplishes it. Any rumors ? Getting Melo would be a dream !

I think between Ray, Pierce, Nate, Delonte, and Wafer, we'll be okay.  Who knows, maybe even Harangody will find his shot.  KG and BBD can help stretch the floor a bit, although neither has 3 point range, of course.

I honestly like our roster as it is.  Sure, if something comes along, beautiful, but I think I'd stand pat.

I think the C's need only to be healthy to be on the very short list of contenders for this year's title.

That said, if I were to name a type of player or skill that I think would bolster this team's roster, a 3-point shooter would not be what I'd name. The C's have Ray, Paul, Nate, Delonte and Von Wafer all capable of throwing down a 3 at a decent rate.

What they don't have is a maniacal big rebounder at the 3, 4 or 5, or a defensive stopper at the 2-3 who could harass a Lebron or Kobe if need be when Ray/Paul sit (I love Marquis, but he isn't the elite 1:1 defender I am talking about).  That said, I don't think we need either of these added pieces to win.

yeah u right. Delonte is good. I followed him and Jameer a lot when they were on St. Joe's. He can definitely hit the 3 and seems like a clutch type go to player. Glen Davis is also clutch. And so is there leader Pierce.

I'm more concerned about rebounding.

No rebounds, no rings.

Shooting?  We have that.  PP and Ray will get the majority of the minutes in the big games anyway.

We could use a bruising utility rebounder, though.  Not sure who I'd give up...

I can think of one trade I'd do.  Bradley for Casspi (Sac wouldn't do it).

Other than that, I'd just wait to get healthy.

Edit:  Oops.  Didn't see the other thread about Casspi.

Couldn't agree more. Celtics are at the bottom of the league when it comes to 3pt made. And that's because they have Nate/Pierce/Ray as their only outside shooters on the team. Those three guys have made 90%+ of the Celtics 3pt this season. Very disproportionate. Getting Delonte Back should help but the only problem is he doesn't take too many 3's. His game is the mid-range. Celtics need another 3 point shooter off the bench.

edit: Luke is now making 3's, lol

A big part of the reason we're so low in 3 pointers made is that our offensive game plan includes a LOT of mid-range jumpers.

We're fine when it comes to tres ... we don't need as many because we're so much better at sharing the ball and attacking the basket. Good defense creates quick baskets at the other end, and this team is a perfect example of that. I think we're pretty well balanced in that respect, and don't need to launch any more threes than we do, IMHO.

A big part of the reason we're so low in 3 pointers made is that our offensive game plan includes a LOT of mid-range jumpers.

There's a big difference between settling for and planning for.

If we are gameplanning for midrange jumpers, we need a new one. They are the hardest shots in the league.

Ideally, only the Big Three should be taking those shots, because they are literally 3 of the best in the League in their spots (Pierce elbow isos, Garnett kick-outs, Ray screens). But EVERYONE else, from Davis to Rondo to even JO... should be attacking the rim or finding our 3pt shooters (Ray, Pierce, Nate, West, Wafer).

Maybe that's why our offense has looked mediocre the last 4 seasons, too dependent on the midrange. Like Doc says, our post game opens up our outside game. No wonder our offense NEVER looked better than it did when Shaq was rolling back in November/December.

I'm not saying it's a good thing, but our team is pretty much built to rely on mid-range jumpers more than threes, though when we're playing well we diversify our offense rather well.  We're just not a three-point heavy team.

I know, if only we could somehow get a career 37% shooter from 3-pt land to come here and backup Ray...maybe someone like Delonte West...

Or we could always trade the ever-appealing package of Wafer, Harangody, and Bradley for Melo...
