while I hold out significant hope that KG will return at full strength this year I'm also worried enough to start mulling hypothetical trades that could help keep us in contention if KG is done.

KG is invaluable and irreplaceable, he possesses a superstar skill set AND the tude to bring it home. no other player brings the intensity and skills that kg brings every night.
a few have the skills, fewer on both sides of the ball.
The c's have the offensive weapons to weather KG's absence, they do not have a low post defensive presence that can effect the game like KG does. few teams do, fewer would be willing to trade such a player.
a few defenders who come to mind are Marcus Camby, Jokim Noah and Andy Verajo. of these three AV and MC are potentially available.
IMO MC is out of our reach, we don't have the assets to compel portland to make the move.
Cleveland is down for the count this year and aiming at lottery. they may be willing to give up AV and his 5 year deal in order to rebuild from scratch and insure a horrid season.
would they swap him for jermaine o'niel and his smaller, shorter 2 year contract?
if not, how about (gulp) perks expiring and filler?

I'd do JO/AV in a heart beat, maybe the cavs owner is vindictive enough to make the deal just to stop LBJ from getting a title?

Perk would hurt, more out of loyalty then on the court. but AV would be locked up for 5 years, his defensive intensity is well above average and his offensive numbers would def improve playing with RR.

Like i said, I'm optimistic about KG's return, though skeptical that he will come back 100%, so i'd be inclined to make either deal if available.

Interesting.  Not sure how the salaries would work but I would definitely be interested in getting AV on the team.
CB Draft LA Lakers: Lamarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony,Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews  6.11, 7.16, 8.14, 8.15, 9.16, 11.5, 11.16

Cleveland is not giving up AV for anything less than a piece they view as a future all star. Its too hard to find young big men.

So your saying Harongody and Wafer won't get it done??

JO for AV works straight up.
we would need to add roughly 1.5 mil of contract to the Perk trade to make it work.

Idea being that they are locked into AV's 5 year deal. he's a great complimentary piece but not the corner stone. if jettisoning him gives them more financial flexibility and helps their chances of landing a cornerstone #1 pick i think they would consider it it.

I actually think that this is one of the reasons I wanted to have JO around. He obviously has trouble staying on the court and has not been at all aggressive since finally coming back, but he does have the skill level to really help us until KG is back.

I think it's time to see what we have in JO.

Come on!  It's at least going take a 2nd round pick, maybe two...

In all seriousness, I don't really see a trade resulting because of this.  If KG is going to be back and 100% any time before the playoffs (whether it's a few games or a few dozen), there's no need for a trade.  If he's not going to be back, no trade is going to make up for it.

I'm thinking if the Celtics add a 2011 second round pick to the Harongody and Wafer equation it gets done!

your sarcasm is misplaced, the trade proposal is based on more logical reasoning than "our junk for your quality player"

Yet I think any Cavs fan, as well as Cavs management, would think "our junk for your quality player" is exactly what your trade proposal is. They could get so much more for AV.

I don't see why the Cavs would want to trade Varejao, although I know it's been rumored.  He's young enough to be part of a rebuild, has a reasonable contract, and is a fan fave.

More likely targets would be Jamison, Diaw or Scola.

Maybe we could trade KG himself?  If there's not going to be a season next year, he is in effect a $18.8 million expiring contract.

A lot of us have seen enough to have that answer - and it's not pretty
