This is what bothered me with yesterday's game...not the fact that we lost, or the fact that we couldn't buy a shot...it was the fact that the officials let the game get out of control early, and then tried to reassert control halfway through the game by making bogus calls. It was a chippy, unenjoyable game...and the commentary was unbearably bad too.

The officiating was a travesty, and an obvious continued stroking of Dwight "Never Fouls Out" Howard by the league. I'd write more about it, but just thinking of the whole situation, (Dwight, Kobe, LeBron, et al), makes me nauseous.

I did not see the game, so while the officiating may have been bad both ways, I can't comment. However, regarding the complaints of Howard and other starts not fouling out of games, how many games have guys like Pierce, Allen or Garnett fouled out? It just does not happen that much -- not only to the marquis players, but to players in general.

If Lebron can get away with calling Stern's league(NBA)a watered down league, why can't Shaq rip the officials?...just sayin

I will admit that I really hate giving the refs crap and putting blame on them. However, this times its hard to argue for them. Like someone mentioned, Baby and Howard were going for a loose ball and Howard clearly knocked it out of bounds. The replay was clear as day on ABC. Calling a T on Doc was completely crazy and Turk should have gotten a flagrant no question. There were a couple times when Howard should have been given a second technical as well.

The same reason LeQuit never gets a technical no matter his "reactions" to the (rare) fouls called on his "highness"

It's absurd to compare the calls Howard and Bryant get to the messiah.

The messiah is officiated like Jordan was in the 90s.

Then there's a group including Kobe, Howard, Pierce, Nash, et al who are given a lesser but very relevent star treatment.

I've always maintained that this is why Donaghy could flourish as long as he did.

Officiate by the freaking rulebook.

Agreed.  It was just inconsistent. I don't blame the refs really, we just missed shots we should of made down the stretch and without Rondo our offense looked like crap a lot of times.

Whatever you say jack.  Honestly the person who I'm surprised doesn't get teched up more is Pierce.  He did yesterday but after he showed a huge reaction to a no call because he kept jawing, not because the initial reaction which should have gotten a T under the new rules.  Not saying I agree with it, and he should have gotten that call he got hacked.

Well, dwight did foul out in the first heat game, in 29 minutes.

And 5 times last year including the playoffs...

While LeBJ hasn't fouled out since April 2008, and only 3 times in his 7.3 seasons!

I have to say also that I'm so tired of the "big guy setting up post position in the paint and someone flops, gets tangled up etc. and they fall and someone at random gets called for a foul" calls that plagued this game.  I mean you like it sometimes when you get them as a fan, for example Big Baby got one on Dwight, but then Shaq got one from Dwight where on the replay Dwight clearly just fell over.  These types of weak calls playing such a huge factor on the game is a joke.  Unless there is seriously egregious contact, just stop calling them because it's deciding games and that is ruining credibility for the refs and the NBA.

You include Pierce with Kobe and Dwight??  Paul Pierce doesn't even get 2/3s of calls that are actually fouls.  And you think he gets star treatment?!  Perhaps you think this is 2006?

One of the no calls he got yesterday was RIDICULOUS.  He was hacked very obviously on the bicep/elbow.  Not the wrist.  Not even the forearm.  Nowhere close to where it could have been mistaken for ball.  How the heck do 3 officials miss a blatant hard grab like that right in front of the basket?  And then they have the balls to T him up?

Don't even get me started on the Howard vs Shaq fouls (fouled out in 12 minutes?!?!?!?)  Or the fact that Hedo can check Garnett's lower body and it's not a flagrant, but anytime Shaq makes an obvious attempt for ball (and actually gets some) it's an immediate 2 shots + ball.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I would say that out of those three, Paul gets away with a lot more.  He travels probably one in three times he has the ball.  That ridiculously obvious upfake/charge that he's made a career of going to the free throw line with is probably as bogus as 80% of the charges (flops) that Glen Davis takes.  The fact that he gets relatively few technicals despite of his frequent histrionics speak to the leiniency he gets from officials.

Incidentally, I liked the restraint that the officials showed on the Howard post-free throw sarcasm where the official told him to knock it off and Howard listened.  I liked the similar restraint the official showed on Pierce before calling a tech.  Pierce didn't stop complaining and deserved the T.  He was the victim of a terrible call but at some point, he needs to stop and get back to the game.

Just officiate by the [dang]ed rulebook.

We missed shots plain and simple!

BUT that foul on Shaq where DH fell? Give me a break, a touch by Shaq threw DH? Yes, Shaq is very strong but it's not like he touched Nate... DH is almost as strong as Shaq!! Miss me w/ that call refs!
