Trade ID #5779606   Magic and Rockets

The recent Magic trade won't work for them.  No way.  This trade solves their problem.  Would never happen therefore no need to worry.  Basically they give up a bit of future for a better present.

Chuck Hayes, Brad Miller, Battier, Brooks, Courtney Lee and Ismael Smith    for
Bass, Nelson, Orton, Ryan Anderson, Duhon and Q. Rich

Hayes takes Bass' role.  He's not as good offensively but he's battle tested, and off the bench shouldn't hurt too much with lack of height....he's played a ton of center.  Brad Miller also off the bench takes bite out of losing Gortat.  Battier adds defense and leadership.  Brooks backs up Arenas.  With point forward Turkoglu and J. Nelson, Arenas will be a cold bench shooter who's not involved.  This would allow the Magic to Just give him the ball as a starter and ride with it, and if he gets hurt Brooks steps in and starts.  Arenas will be wasted as things stand now.

Arenas, J. Richardson, Battier, Turkoglu, Howard
Brooks, Lee, Reddick, Hayes, Miller (Turk is backup SF)

The Rockets get an upgraded starting PG and bigs for the future.

Nelson, Kevin Martin, Budinger, Scola, Bass
Lowry, Terrence Williams, Jordan Hill, P. Patterson, D. Orton
Duhon/Is. Smith, Ryan Anderson

Some good future trade prospects there for the rockets....who aren't going to make it this year anyway.....

Why on earth would the Rockets do that? The best player in that trade is Brooks. The player with most value is arguably Brad Miller, as he is the only 7 footer in the trade.

I don't see why the Rockets would lose those assets, even though they're on a downwarding slope with Yao being out again.

The Magic would be crazy to say no to that package, but considering they just traded for Arenas, I'm not even sure if they'd take it!

I thought Jameer Nelson had more respect than Brooks around the league.....you may be right.  Let's assume they're even for a moment...the Rockets would be giving up Battier, Hayes and Miller for basically Bass (ready young talent) and Orton (unready young talent...some may argue his talent level is low).  So it's a bit of a rebuild on the Rockets part.

Interesting point about Brooks.  He's probably better than I realize.  Certainly if he's better than Nelson it kills the trade.

If I was the Rockets I would prefer Brooks over Nelson, and wouldn't do the trade.

Jameer Nelson is a better player than Aaron Brooks.

Brandon Bass and Ryan Anderson are both vastly superior players than Brad Miller and/or Chuck Hayes. Hayes is a horrible fit offensively alongside a player like Dwight Howard so his value would be considerably lower in Orlando than it would be elsewhere.

Orlando need a defensive anchor, a rim protector, at center which Brad Miller clearly is not. By the way, Houston need the exact same thing and the reason they don't have it is because they wasted their money on B.Miller. One of two large mistakes made by Houston this offseason which cost them about 10 wins.

There is so much talent switching teams ... I am confused!

That's why I labeled it a fantasy trade ;D

You seem to agree that Houston gets the better talent for the future, despite losing Battier, which is the price for they pay for that talent.  But let's just focus on one team at a time, starting with the Magic.

They start               Arenas, J. Rich, BAttier, Turk, Howard
fairly soon is:         Arenas, J. Rich, Turk, B. Miller, Howard
Next is:                   Brooks, Reddick, Battier, B. Miller, Hayes
Next is:                   Brooks, Reddick, Battier, Turk, Howard
