The Celtics' Paul Pierce and the Spurs' Tony Parker Monday were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Dec. 13, through Sunday, Dec. 19.

Pierce recorded a triple-double and two double-doubles on the week, averaging 21.7 points, 8.7 assists, 8.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals, as Boston went 3-0 to extend their winning streak to 13 games. On Dec. 15, Pierce scored 32 points and hit the game-winning shot against New York with 0.4 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

I was watching the indy game and had quite a discussion on just how far our captain o' captain has come.  It wasn't that long ago our high scoring sg was nullified by Ron Artest of the Indiana Pacers, Paul ended up letting Artest get into his head and we ultimately lost a game we could have won.  Paul did the post game interview with his head bandaged.  At that point I would have been fine with him being traded.  Thankfully we got rid of Antoine and Paul has matured and become one of the most rounded celtics EVER.  A Paul Pierce before Docs tenure would have been doing iso, spin moves and pounding the ball until he had to shoot.  Pierce the last few years is doing WHATEVER it takes for the team to win.  Need him to play great one on one defense, done.  Need him to facilitate ball movement & assists while Rondo is out, done.  Need an extra rebounder, done.  Along with the fact he has an amazing well rounded offense game.  No way is Pierce close to forcing any shots, he is taking what comes naturally in the flow of game and what the defense will give him.  it has been a pleasure

I don't think Artest is the reason we lost though.  We lost because we couldn't score or rebound.  KG with 3 rebounds?  Kobe and Gasol with 15+?  That's the reason we lost.

And how could anyone want Paul traded after that playoffs against Indy?  He didn't have a meltdown to me.  He should have never been tossed out of the game.  What he committed was an offensive foul not a technical foul and it should have been called as such.  The refs just wanted him out of the game so they could hand the win to Indy.  But Toine saved us that game. Couldn't save the series though. :(  Sorry, but I thought the press conference with the bandages was funny.

He meant the Ron Artest of the Indiana Pacers, way back when.

Doh.  I'm still ticked off about the loss in the Finals!  Can't let it go. >:(

PP hasn't changed, the team around him has.  He always did whatever was needed to win (although now he has help and doesn't need to do everything or force his offense) and he still has a quirky sense of humour, which is fine with me.
And Artest had nothing to do with the Pierce getting tossed against the Pacers.  That was Tinsley and Pierce lost his cool because he was being hit in the face repeatedly.  The officials were to blame for letting Tinsley get away with that.

This is awesome ... it should have happened many more times than it has, but Paul has always been about "team first" and winning, and not primarily about padding his personal stats, or trying to be the superstar he actually is. He is the Captain of this team because he epitomizes what "Celtic Pride" is all about, and represents the City of Boston with class, character, and commitment to the community. I very proud to say he's ours.
