Earlier I proposed a far-fetched trade for Gerald Wallace, but in the aftermath of the Orlando trades, I think a far more realistic target is available: Mickael Pietrus.

While he was with Orlando, Pietrus was never a realistic target because of our direct competition with Orlando. Now that he's one of 5 or 6 quality veteran wings on a mediocre Phoenix team, I think he's eminently attainable.

I don't think there's much question as to how well he'd fit.  He's a very solid defensive wing with legitimate 3-pt range and a welcome streak of athleticism.

If Delonte makes a timely recovery, I would offer Nate/Wafer for Pietrus.

Nate's very likely to get his minutes drastically cut in the playoffs if West is healthy.  Rondo's going to be a 40 mpg player, Nate's defense is going to be exploited more, so West is likely to get most of the back-up guard minutes.  Thus, I'd consider Nate expendable.

In contrast, the abundance of large scoring wings is going to limit West as a back-up wing, putting more pressure on Daniels to pick-up the majority of back-up wing minutes, which will in turn punish the C's floor-spacing.  With Pietrus in Nate's stead, D-West can take the back-up PG minutes and brief 2-guard minutes, with Pietrus taking the bulk of the wing back-up minutes without compromising our floor spacing.  Marquis would remain on hand as an emergency back-up to the 1-3 spots (an ideal role for him, IMHO).

Phoenix saves a little money and replaces their 4th/5th wing (Carter, Hill, Childress, Dudley) with an explosive 3rd guard.

Would you do it?

Phoenix have no need for Nate with Dragic on the squad. They might make the move for Glen Davis though.

I'd love to have Pietrus on the Celtics bench. He'd be an excellent backup wing.

Would you move Davis for Pietrus?  That would be pretty risky without another move to add a dependable big.  If Danny were to get a guy like Dante Cunningham for a pick, then I would definitely give up Baby.

I don't know.

I would want to wait until the final moment before the trading deadline to decide. See how Perkins recovery is going + how the two O'Neals are holding up. Need to be very confident about their health before moving BBD.

It'd be a tough risk to take.

I'd definitely NOT trade Baby for MP. I'd trade JO for him, but PHX wouldn't.

If we could pick-up Sheed and he was in reasonable health, I'd also be willing to move Baby.

I like Pietrus, but for the amount he gets paid and for what we'd have to give up to get him, I think it makes sense to stick with M. Daniels.

I think having to depend on Daniels as the primary wing will bite us.  Foul trouble on either of Paul/Ray and our floor spacing is shot or we have to go painfully small.

Pietrus is making $5.3 mil.  That's absolutely fine for the first wing off the bench.

No question that Pietrus is better than Daniels.
But I prefer Daniels and BBD to Pietrus.
Now, I know some say it would be Pietrus plus Sheed.  But by the same token it could be Daniels, BBD and Sheed (just cut Wafer or Gody).

He would be perfect for us.  I'd trade Marquis and Wafer for him in a heartbeat.  Marquis has been a little more consistent this year but if we have a chance to trade him for a bigger guy with better defense, better range, and is less injury-prone, you have to do it.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Baby, Marquis and Nate are all better than Pietrus, imo.  The only thing Pietrus has on Marquis is the 3 pt shot.  Baby and Marquis seem to be intelligent players, I don't get the same feeling with Pietrus.

Besides being a decent 3pt shooter Pietrus can be a v.good one on one defender. He held his own on Lebron several times in the playoffs.Remember the 2008-09 playoffs Pietrus did a decent job on defending Lebron.

I still cant believe after a 13 game win streak people want to trade valuable pieces of our rotation to get players that we dont have a need for in return. Unreal.

Its been a very scary 13 game win streak.

IF!! Delonte is 101% healthy and doing well.  I could see Nate for Pietrus.  He would be perfect for our thinest position by far.

I agree. I love Sheed, but you can't give up Davis, our most reliable bench player at any position, and then depend on a guy who had to ask out of game 7 of the finals from exhaustion. We may end up needing Davis (or Sheed) to go 40 minutes in a playoff game again, and I would much rather put my money on Davis in that situation.
