naw...i think they rebound and beat the pacers and pistons. the difference the last 2 seasons was the celtics went directly out west after the Christmas game. this year they don't.

heh... maybe. The team quality doesn't matter. Last year we dropped games post-christmas to the 76ers, Clippers and Warriors.   Year before that we dropped games post-Christmas to Warriors, Knicks and Bobcats.  Year before that we dropped post-Christmas games to the Bobcats, Wizards (twice) and Raptors.

Not exactly playoff teams.

they will be fine.

i always remember the 1970's Celtics (two banners) struggling through their mid-January schedule. you could set your calendar by those teams and their winter swoon.

i've always said this current group reminds me much more of the 70's Celtics than the 80's Celtics, so maybe they share their same post-Christmas psyche.

i've pretty much assumed that this team will hit a rough patch at some point this season - just too many injuries and a team focus being on the post-season and not the regular season. what is important this year is not to allow a two-week lull to turn into a two-month slump like last season.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

the thing is, we lost one close game to a good team today, that's not what I call hitting a rough patch, these kind of things happen to all teams during the course of the season. Now if we were to lose 6 out of the next 10 then we would be hitting a rough patch, but it isn't going to happen.

I'm not sure if dropping 3 out of 4 following Christmas yet qualifies as a "HOliday Brain Fart"... but I think I've pretty much been proven right already.  Inevitable injuries and mid-season apathy has predictably set right in.   Tune em out till the playoffs.

Nostradamus coming back to rub it in people's face. I'm sure you also predicted the loss of KG & Rondo. Where were you when they won against Indiana? Or you just reappear after losses.  ::)

I still don't buy it. The effort is there unlike last year. Maybe a few more losses and that will change. As of now different team that plays hard in spite of the injuries.

Its not hard to predict an injury to one of the big 3... they are old.   It's fine.  We'll make a "shocking" run in the playoffs once everyone has written us off.  Yall are looking at this as a negative... I'm just saying it's the same thing every year.

07-08 They were 29-3 on Jan 5th... then from Jan 6-Feb 22nd they went 11-9.

08-09 -  They win 19 in a row leading up to Christmas day. 27-2.... Then they lose to the Lakers.  Proceed to lose 6 of their next 8 games following that (including 4 in a row).

09-10 - 23-5 record... then proceed to go 6-11 the rest of the month.

10-11 -  23-5 ... then drop 3 of 4 (ongoing) ...

Gotta be honest, considering that most people though this would be a blowout, I can't say I'm not impressed we kept that close. Obviously disappointed we didn't get the win, but I have a hard time believing we're gonna end up in some slump like last season.

I didn't see any lack of effort today (granted I only saw the second half), but I did see a few "bad" decisions...blame them on trying too hard, youth, whatever...I hope they don't happen again.  I know Doc saw them and will address them....I think they were possibly the difference between a win and a loss today.  I hope a lesson is learned from them...

I still don't believe this prediction. Health is the only thing dragging us down. We'll right the ship in about 2 weeks.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Sorry but you are completely wrong on this. First off, most of our serious injuries are to our young starters (Rondo and Perk) not the big 3 and not due to age.

Second, there is no lack of effort, our guys played [dang] hard the last few games and deserve credit. They are suffering from losing their floor general and now their defensive leader.

This is not last year's team, this team plays with pride and heart, and the rest of the regular season will shut you up in an embarrassing way.

What hurts is with our record we created some space among the top teams - now for the next few weeks looks like were going to be dropping games left and right. It pretty much makes that nice start and chemistry we had going worthless.

Even after that 2-3 week period that we get KG and Rondo back if they come back tentative or KG is favoring that leg it's going to be very frustrating to say the least. This is even hoping the calf doesn't flare back up.

i predict baby will pull a toine keep taking 3's, leading to harrangody beating him out for his spot.

i predict delonte will forget to take his meds and pull a sprewell on doc, doc will quit, and we'll hire larry brown, who i predict rondo will pull a sprewell on.

i predict two wallaces screwing us over this year.

i predict we'll lose most of our games and get our 8th playoff spot taken in a tie-breaker by the raptors, who i predict at the trade deadline will make a blockbuster trade consisting of draft picks, joey dorsey, and peja stojacbic for rudy gay and marc gasol.

i predict we sign sheed, and five games in he gets arrested for possession by an undercover bob delany.

i predict stan the van getting Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.slapped by gilbert arenas, and areanas does the butt slap dance after the following game's starting lineup announcement.

i predict chris kaman wears a toupee.

i predict.

i predict.

i predict.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
The only reason this might happen is if the injuries keep piling up. I can see this team going into a bit of a skid unless players start getting healthy. That said, however, this appears to be a far different team with a far different attitude than that of last year's squad.
in a good way?
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Once we are healthy, this team is good enough to go on a run similar to what the 07-08 team did after their 11-9 skid. Last year there were too many injuries and we were not as deep.

Technically you are right, but I dont think it will last long enough for people to write us off. At least I hope it doesnt!

Just dont expect people patting you on the back for predicting injuries or poor play. This is CELTICS blog.
