First All-Star Returns, Celtics in good shape

Noah is not an All-Star this season, that ship has sailed.

Hopefully Rondo's injury doesn't let Rose slip in as a starter. He'll make it regardless, but less of a chance of Ray making it if the coaches have to select Rondo too.

I'd love to see Shaq make it with the rest of them.

And more importantly, Doc the coach.

I hear a lot of love on NBATV for Josh Smith...Rick Kamlis,Steve Smith feels he got overlooked last year.Most all the TNT guys want to see him on the sqaud too.

Who would you choose as a backup center over him? Al Horford is overrated and the Hawks aren't very good, the Nets suck and Lopez's stats are down, Bargnani's game has serious weaknesses. I think it's between him and Andrew Bogut at this point.

It's possible but I don't think he'll make it in if it comes down to him or Pierce. Right now I would say Pierce, Stoudemire and Smith would be the reserves. Boozer and Bosh have a shot though.

I think we can count on Ray and Rondo getting in just because of the lack of All-Star caliber guards in the East.  Raymond Felton will probably be the 4th guard on the East squad because of that.

I'm surprised to see KG over Amare.  I think there's a good chance we'll see 4 Celtics in the All-Star game this year.

Judging by these results, the C's starting 5 are all going to be all-stars this year. KG/Rondo the starters, Allen/Pierce/Shaq as the reserves.

Yea, but what SG in the east would replace Ray as a reserve? I cant see any.

Same goes for pierce, they would be the best reserves at their positions in the east.

I have had the same stand every year I have been on this blog...I hope none of them make the All-Star game and that all the Celtics take the time during the break to rest up, heel themselves and take it easy in preparation for the second half of the season. Why risk a possible injury in a league sponsored exhibition that means nothing?

Fs will be LeBron, KG, Amar'e all for sure. I think Pierce is comfortably in after that, with Boozer, and Josh Smith also being considered.

Shaq won't make it, he's missing too many games and playing too few minutes. It will be Howard, Horford, Bogut, and/or Noah before him.

Why do I worry? Two words....Robert Edwards.

They get hurt at practice they are getting hurt trying to get better for their team doing their job. They get hurt at the ASG they are getting hurt needlessly doing something that could have been avoided. You can't avoid practice. This...you can.

Carlos Boozer broke his hand answering his front door. Why don't they just spend the All-Star break in a padded room, that way there's no risk of injury.

The injury risk is minimal, the practices are a joke and they hardly go all out or play strong defense during the game. When was the last time someone suffered a legitimate injury during an All-star game?

It's enjoyable for the fans, it means a lot to the players whether they choose to admit it or not, and it means recognition from both fans and coaches for their excellent play.

Players can blow out their knee in the shower, fixating on a risk of one exhibition when they play tons of pick up, work out, and play a ton of real games seems silly.

I never understood why people feel players should take an "all-star" game off to "rest."

All-Star games are important to players, their ego, and their motivation, they usually barely even play 10-15 minutes in them.

Its a game for the fans, and the players want and enjoy being in them.

Johnson is likely to return soon, plus veterans often get friendly coaches' picks.

All of those players also play a lot more minutes than Shaq.  Boozer has already closed most of the minutes gap on Shaq....
