Bosh or Amare?

Amare 21pts 9rebs 1blk per game for his career.

Bosh  21pts 9rebs 1blk per game for his career.

Bosh seemed to be the concensus in the off-season, but after Amare's performance against us and recent play who do thinks the better man?

Their stats are not quite equal, very close....

http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=s4tog

Amar'e
21.6 PPG at .605 TS% with 8.9 RPG 1.4 Ast 1.4 Blks
28 years old with several major knee issues and the detached retina injury

Bosh
20.1 PPG at .570 TS% with 9.3 RPG 2.2 Ast 1.2 Blks
26 years old no real injury red flags

I say Bosh without much hesitation. He's a more well rounded player, is a younger player, and has less injury history. Amar'e is a more elite offensive player, but I don't like his help defense and rebounding as much as Bosh's. (which is saying something)

Depends on the fit. A team with LeBron but without D-Wade and a solid cast of defensive players...Amar'e. LeBron and a solid interior center (honestly, Robin Lopez comes to mind..or a healthy JO, or Serge Ibaka..just has to be mobile, jumpshot optional..Dalembert would work too) would go a long way towards finding a balance between offense and defense.

A team with D-Wade and LeBron, Bosh. For the reasons faf listed.

Over the last dozen games, Bosh has been showing something new - defensive effort!

Stoudamire's ability to score efficiently is hard to beat, but defensively he's pretty useless.

  • Rondo = Good
Stoudemire is clearly a better offensive player...he can be a legit #1 option on offense....Bosh cannot.

However, Bosh is a better rebounder and probably a better defender when he puts his mind to it.

So as a 3rd man, I'd take Bosh over Amare.  But as a #1 or #2 I'd take Amare.  Both of them really need to have a solid defensive / rebounding presence next to them in the front court, though.

I likey my stats but...

Amar'e has shown me this year that his confidence as a player and leadership skills can elevate players around him.

You put Bosh on this Knicks team and I dont think they would be making the noise they are.

Bosh is probably a little more well balanced than STAT because of his slight better defense, but Ill take Amare all day because he just seems like a more fiery competitor.

Amare in a heartbeat.... Bosh's stats are influxed because he was the number one option on a horrible team. His stats inflated because he got the majority of the teams shots and was the focal point...

Amare has been able to produce big numbers on playoff caliber teams.

I honestly don't see how Bosh is more well rounded. The only thing he seems to do better than Amare is pass. Please don't bring up rebounding because he barely edges out Amare with 0.4 difference in 2 more minutes. Both of them suck defensively, so I don't know why that's being brought up and it's not like Amare has ever played anywhere where he was really asked to play defense. Also look at the play-off numbers, keep in mind that Bosh has only been in the play-offs once and he played against a horrible nets frontline that had Mikki Moore as a starter (Al Jefferson averaged something like 30 against that year.).

Looking at the stats I think an argument can be made, but when you watch the games I think Amare is clearly the better player.

Definitely Amare.  He's a more capable go-to scorer.  Also he's unstoppable in the pick and roll.  Pair him with an elite perimeter scorer and you've already got yourself one heck of a team.  Bosh would rather have the ball in his hands while putting up decent numbers as the number 1 option (but Amare is even better at that now that he's gone to the Knicks).

I still don't think LeBron+Wade+Bosh can match up with LeBron+Amare+some better role players.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

If you got a good PG in D'Antoni's system, Amare.

Every other situation, Bosh is the correct answer.

Amar'e Stoudemire.

He has been a huge reason for NY being in the running for a playoff spot. Felton's play has helped, too.

He is even playing better defensively, IMO. Offensively? He seems to have no fear of taking over a game.

At this moment?  Amare.

Long-term?  I'm leaning Bosh but it depends on supporting cast.
