Semih Love Thread

Semih is playing as well as anyone could hope. It is very apparent that he is working hard and listening to all his teachers (could you imagine the education he must be getting from Shaq, Garnett and the coaching staff?). He is making the most of his opportunity.

I havent a clue what the future is for the young man but I am enjoying a success story unfolding.

As a Celics fan...I cheer for all of the players but you always have a soft spot for a special few...Perk and Rondo as rookies and now Semih....

I guess it's a blessing in disguise that JO is hurt and Shaq had to sit out a few games.  Gives Semih some minutes to develop his game.  Pretty good for the 60th pick in the draft. He's coming along rather nicely.

I just hope Shaq is back for the Knick game.

Hes changed, he nearly had a double double tonight with a ton of blocks, the guy is a solid back-up.

Sign me up for the Semih does not-suck bandwagon.

I think a lot of your players have game.  I like Turkolu alot and think he helped ORL more than Carter.  I been surprised by the quality of Turkish NBA players and may try to check out some more Turkish B-Ball players.

Erden was probably a little shy in camp. Danny gets  another Tommy point getting this big man. Imagine with the other 3 walking wounded centers we have this guy is playing very acceptable.

And speaking of other Turks, did anyone else think that Erden looked extra-motivated against the Bulls because he wanted to prove he was better than countryman Omer Asik?

His mobility is what impresses me the most but Lord is he foul prone.

No small part of his productivity last night was that he managed to stay on the court for 41 minutes without fouling out.

At this point, I "like" what I see from Semih, for me, he really hasn't played enough or been called on/answered enough to qualify for a "love" thread ... we'll se what the rest of the season and the playoffs bring.

Someone's a little miserly with the love - especially in this most wonderful festiveous time o' the year.  I'm not asking for a full bore contractual marriage love commitment, just some appreciation of what he's done so far, and especially last night.

Great job last night... he's like 21 and Turkish, meaning he stepped in here with no idea what was going on and learned our schemes with a language barrier. He has also executed them quite competently with a bum shoulder and thumb.

Hard not to love that.

according to Neurotic Guy earlier in the thread he's 24, which usually means the limits a little lower for him, but still the last few starts have shown promise no doubt

As a Turkish fan of both Celtics and Semih, I have to admit that I am really surprised and impressed with his recent performance with Celtics. Before the start of the season, I gave him zero chance to play more than 2 minutes in a game. It is not because he is a bad player but he is a rookie (+ a European rookie), he has a shoulder injury, he doesn't know English and lastly he doesn't know the defensive and offensive sets of NBA well and it will take some time to adapt it. As you know, European and NBA basketball is far away from each other.

However, he got the chance to play significant minutes in last games as most of the C's bigs were not available. I can't say he was the star of the games, he made lots of mistakes (especially at the first quarters) since he had the pressure of "what if I can't succeed" and the fear of getting early fouls in the defence. When he got used to play more minutes and concentrate the game without the pressure and fear I mentioned above, he showed that he can be a good backup player in short run especially for a 4th (or 5th big) and 2 round 60th pick. 

It is too early to make keen judgements about him. I think he deserves a chance to show herself. He is a raw player, have lots of things to learn. He will be better within  1-2 years in my opinion.

I've been thinking that these minutes he's been getting are probably going to pay off down the road.  He's got some skills, great size, mobility, etc., and experience at the Worlds last year on a winning squad.  He's going to be a player.  No need to be too tough on a rookie when they shouldn't even be expected to play.

Startling prediction:  Erden is the future starting Center of the Rondo era.

Wow, I would not go that far, but I love your enthusiasm. I see him more as a solid back up to Perk kind of the way Gortat backs up Howard.

Eh, he hasn't played all that differently. He's still not finishing all that well, he's still not rebounding all that well, and he's certainly not rotating well on defense.

Same sort of production, just more minutes for Semih.
