Well, an interesting question is, could Dwight Howard win MVP and DPOY? If he's the leading MVP candidate, perhaps the thinking is that voters would give DPOY to the next candidate in line: KG.
Could he win the MVP without winning the DPOY? His offense isn't going to get him the award...
That is my point in a nutshell
His offense is significantly better than KG, but his defense isn't quite on the same level - but is close.
If that were the case (I'm not arguing that it necessarily is), then I could see Dwight winning MVP and KG winning DPOY.
Basically, Dwight wins MVP for being a great defensive player who also scores a lot of points for his team (a great player overall), while KG wins DPOY for being the player who makes the greatest positive impact on his team's defense.
Also, TP for looking up the stat about players who won both MVP and DPOY. I don't think Dwight Howard is good enough to deserve getting both awards, but I think by season's end he may make the most sense for MVP (given the lack of other complete candidates outside of Miami).
