There seems to be a consensus in the media that Andre Iguodala is on his way out in Philly.  He's a very good player, but not really a franchise player by any means.  In other words, if he's your 3rd or 4th best player, you're in great shape; if he's your best player...uh oh.  He's also got a fairly expensive and long term contract (though he is worth the money).

Also, Iggy doesn't really fit alongside the young players (Holliday, Turner, Young) that the Sixers have amassed.  As such, the Sixers are looking to trade Iguodala in order to free up future cap space and minutes for their younger players.

The question I've been pondering a lot recently - and to which I've yet to come up with a really good answer - is where might he end up?

I'd like to see Iggy on the Rockets.  I think he'd fit in really well with their more up-tempo style now that Yao is out / limited more often than not.  His lack of shooting would be offset by Brooks and Martin being great shooters.  There's an open question of whether the Rockets have enough assets, though.

The Mavericks are another intriguing possibility - Andre would give them everything Caron Butler gives them and a lot more - plus he's a good deal younger.  The Mavs don't really have any young assets to trade, though.

There's always the possibility, given Elton Brand's resurgence, that the Sixers might find somebody to trade for both Iggy and Brand.  That would be a lot of money to take on, but a team acquiring both players might really significantly improve their squad right away by pulling off such a deal.  I'm not sure which team in win-now mode would be a good fit, though.

What are your thoughts?  I'm quite certain Iggy will be traded this year (and Brand may be as well), I'm just not sure where, and I'd love to figure it out before it happens.

I'm not sure - I was hoping he'd end up in New Orleans but they screwed the pooch on that one to get Chris Paul's friend to back him up.  And I don't know enough about salary cap scenarios to speculate realistically about other destinations.

But I hope he does get traded; I've been watching him a lot lately since he's on my fantasy team, and I really like his game.  As you said, he is very weak as a franchise guy, but could be an excellent high-level complementary player.  If he could get on a team with 2-3 guys who are better than him, he'd be a phenomenal piece.

Good call.  He would be a good fit there, and they have the expiring contracts and extra draft picks to make it happen.  Something like Battier, Jeffries, and a pick or two would make sense.

Another good call.  The Mavs could throw in Roddy Beaubois, and maybe Stevenson, and take back Lou Williams as well.  I don't think he is a great fit for that team, but he is absolutely the type of guy they would go after.

Another interesting possibility would have him going to Orlando.  They have Carter's (semi) expiring deal, and if they really want to be bold, could do a Carter/Gortat for Iggy/Brand package.  Obviously, that would be pricey for Orlando, but if they really want to be in the discussion with the Lakers and Celtics (and potentially Heat), I think they need to do something bold like that.

If I had to put my money on anything however, it would be him ending up in Denver as part of a 3 way deal sending Melo somewhere else.

Stepping back as a basketball fan, I'd love to see the following:

Jeff Green to Sac for either Thompson or Landry
-Green gets to play SF, Sac frees up their 4/5 for a legit SF
Mo Peterson and Harden to Philly for Iggy.
-Rebuild with a cheaper, better shooting wing to pair with Speights/Young/Holiday/Turner

With Westbrook and Durant as good as they are, I say try to cash in on the perceived value/upside of Harden and Green for legit pieces and start competing seriously right now. Plus, Iggy/Thompson/Landry are all still young, so it keeps a legit 8 year window open with flexibility.

Westbrook/Maynor
Iggy/Sefolosha
Durant/Sefolosha
Landry/Ibaka
Krstic/Collison

Could Orlando make Philly an offer?

They could, but I think the Sixers would want to get back significant young talent for Iggy (which the Magic don't really have), or they'd want to unload Brand's contract as well.

Adding Iggy and Brand would certainly make Orlando more interesting...but considering that neither is a great outside shooter (although Andre is shooting close to 35% from deep this season), I'd wonder how good a fit they'd be alongside Dwight.

It would have to look something like this:

I'm not exactly sure if that trade would really make Orlando considerably better.

The more that I think about it, the more Dallas makes sense.  A trade like this seems fairly plausible (assuming a pick is thrown in):

The Rockets have better assets to offer (Budinger, picks), but the Mavs might be more willing to make the commitment considering their current success.  Iggy would be a major upgrade on Caron and would solidify the Mavs as a very serious contender.

Is Redick, Ryan Anderson, Gortat, Carter, 1st rounder and cash enough for Iggy and Brand?

Orlando rolls with Nelson, Iggy, Shard, Brand, and Howard, with Bass, Duhon, QRich, and Pietrus rounding out the rotation.

Philly goes forward with Holiday, Redick, Turner, Thad Young, and Gortat, with Lou Williams, Speights and Anderson off the bench, a top 5 rookie, and a ridiculous amount of cap space for next season. Even more if they could clear Nocioni as well.

The Sixers don't figure to get much in return for Iggy.

One solid but unexceptional prospect or a mid first round pick + expiring contracts would likely do it.

The last thing Phoenix would do is go out and trade for another wing.

Aside from the fact you'd be trading 4 players for 2, I'm not sure Orlando would be sending back enough salary in that trade.  I'm also not entirely sure the Sixers would like to take on Gortat's long term contract (3 yrs after this one).

Butler + a 2011 or 2012 first rounder from Dallas seems to make a lot of sense, doesn't it?  Is there any reason Dallas would rather have Caron?

Other teams might be able to make a better offer, though (higher picks - e.g. Houston).

Trade works without using Redick's salary, which is BYC. I suspect it would still work with him included.

Trade Ideas

(1) Utah -- Andrei Kirilenko + 2011 first round pick for Iggy
(2) New Jersey -- Troy Murphy + lottery protected pick for Iggy
