I don't think Orlando is done. Their next move will be to acquire Camby and Andre Miller and I think they'll give up Nelson, Reddick and possibly Ryan Anderson.

Portland is looking to move those guys, and they need a "PG of the future".  Also, Roy has already stomped his feet about his displeasure playing with Miller.

Jameer is almost 29.  Is that a "PG of the future"?

You're right, I worded that wrong. They need a good PG.

Otis Smith had some fun with the trade machine: dang!

A lot of hoping in change of scenery improving performance.

Carter to Arenas is a downgrade at current performance levels.  Richardson's a nice offensive upgrade to Pietrus.  Turkoglu is a different flavor than Shard. Losing Gortat hurts them.  He kept that defense humming with Howard off the floor.

More offensively unpredictable, much more defensively vulnerable.

What makes you think Andre Miller would be a fit in Orlando's system, given he absolutely cannot spread the floor?  That seems to be the main reason he's had trouble fitting in on the Blazers.

Also, why the heck would the Blazers, who lack centers, trade one of the only good, healthy centers on their roster?

You think they're gonna go after Andre Miller? He'd be a good change of pace guard, but so is Jameer Nelson.

I'm not sure they can trade Jameer until Gilbert proves he can stay healthy. They should absolutely address the PF spot though.

If they did trade Jameer, Nelson for Boris Diaw works, and Diaw is an expiring. They could even throw in Ryan Andersen, and it would still work.

Miller would be fine running the pick and roll, but redundant with Turk. Would he come off the bench? Getting Camby would be a nice upgrade though.

Not sure they can make the trade for Miller/Camby without a third team though.

I'd say this made them worse. They just went from the 3rd best team in the East to the 4th best team in the east. Arenas for Lewis trade was good because they got rid of his horrible contract, but the trade with PHX is bad. They lost a very reliable backup center in Gortat and a defensive stopper and clutch shooter in Pietrus. Hedo and J-Rich can't play defense.

How can a trade be good when you get rid of a bad contract for an equally bad contract that has an extra year?

Ooops. Wasn't aware of Gilbert's contract situation. Thought his contract would be expiring sooner than Lew's. Had no clue it was longer. Sorry, should do some more research before I post next time. aha

Gilbert is a better overall player than Rashard Lewis, but I'm not sure how he will fit in with Orlando. Is he going to come off the bench? Is he going to start at shooting guard?

I still like the trade with WSH better compared to the deal they made with PHX.
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6

I think Otis Smith's train of thought was: "defense? nahh... we got Dwight! He'll handle literally every defense responsibility!"
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

I would see what Nelsons value is but not to get Miller... They need a back up Center/ Like Camby, and a starting power forward.
I would look into a Nelson and filler (Q rich?) for Camby/Batum trade.

Arenas/Williams/Duhon
Richardson/Reddick
Turk/Batum
Bass/Camby
Howard/Camby

Really, really interesting trade ... it certainly shakes things up, but I'm not sure it's going to improve things for either teams overall. Yes, it fills certain holes, but it also creates others as well. Gotta process this a bit more and see the adjustments before I make a final decision about this one. Orlando had better get deep in the playoffs, or Dwight's going to be unhappy about sticking around ... and what's his back-up if he's injured? Very weak, that's what. We'll see.

If i was the GM Otis Smith i would try moving J.Nelson for a pass first shot second pg that can get D.Howard the ball better. The Vince for Glibert deal would be trading one flawed player for another.I don't see where it will upgrade Orlando.

Like who? Jameer Nelson is already a pretty decent PG, and the Magic don't have too much talent to offer in a trade for a legit pass first pg who is better.

Right now Nelson is at 7.3 assists per contest, and 11.4 assists per 48 minutes. His assists per game tie him for 10th in the league, (with everyone above him playing more minutes) and his assists per 48 are better than everyone above him save Rondo, Nash, Kidd, Paul and Deron Williams. That puts him above guys like Felton or Westbrook or Wall.

I think the problem with getting Dwight the ball fall less on Jameer's shoulders and more on SVG's.
Jameer is a good pg as far as scoring pts but he is not a decent decision maker in big games or key situations.Even though Gilbert is more of a sg i feel he will be a better decision maker and distributor of the ball in big game situations than Nelson.

Quite a gamble by Otis. GREAT that they got rid of both chokers - but there's no backup center.

Big loss in Pietrus, and I don't believe Turk has much - if anything - left.

They need to trade QRich and either Duhon or JWill for a big, as they only have 2nd year Earl Clark and rookie Daniel Orton

my guess is they keep jameer around. hes a proven point guard in their system and has worked well with turk and howard in the past (the year they made it to the finals). i think they will start with:

nelson, jrich, turk, bass, howard

depending on who they play, they will end each game differently which is nice to have that depth and flexibility.

i think its redick and duhon who are out. what scares me is that reddick is good enough of a trading chip to get them back a solid backup center. if that happens and this team gels, then yeah they are pretty stacked and are right up there with us and the heat. i cant wait to see what we really have when people start getting healthy. if we dont have rondo, both oneals, and dwest for the xmas game, it may not be much of a game.

also, how does orlando currently stack up against the lakers? if its a lakers team that does not have bynum, i think they match up very well with turk playing the 4.

man i cant wait for the playoffs.
