I wouldn't be despondent. This isn't even close to the team we should be seeing when it counts. Baby and Semih will barely see the floor.
Even if West mangled his hand, it's not even December and it wasn't his shooting hand.
It's not just a question of "one of 82" and "being ready in the spring." It's a question of us as fans being able (or in this case, not able) to watch a good product on the floor for most of the season. Yes, the playoffs are what matters most, and whether Boston gets the banner is the ultimater issue, but an 82-game slog is murder on us fans, not to mention that it also hurts Boston's playoff seeding, which makes its postseason road more difficult.
This is the third straight season in which Boston's been depleted with injuries while the other contenders are mostly healthy. And playing with effort and having your head in the game should be happening regardless of physical injuries, yet it continues to not happen for Boston. Now Delonte's down. Aye carumba. If we're gonna basically throw games anyway -- due to a combination of injuries and (lack of) hustle) -- then let's just play a lineup of Bradley, Erden, Wafer, Harangody and some second-stringer most of the time and see what they can do. That way, at least, we'll rarely be surprised when we lose.
