Could we trade Kendrick Perkins, Marquis Daniels, and Von Wafer for Greg Oden and Rudy Fernandez?

Tough to deal Kendrick's toughness for Oden's potential, but I'd be intrigued.

Oden may > Perk but I don't think he'll ever be the player that he could've been before the injuries. I'd take a healthy Perk over a 75 % Oden any day of the week, including Sundays. So, to answer your Q, "no thanks".

Won't he be an unrestricted free agent if Portland doesn't pick up his option?  I would love to take him on, but I wouldn't if I had to trade Perk.

I was thinking about somehow getting Oden after seeing the news of his injury.  Honestly, I'd definitely make a move on him.  Plenty of guys come back from microfracture knee surgery these days, and his is on a knee that hasn't had any prior issues.  I consider his previous wrist injury an anomaly too.

I would consider trading Perkins for him too, mostly b/c I think Oden has a much higher ceiling and Perk seems to be close to his.  Also, having both Oden & Perkins would be redundant.  We don't need 2 defensive style centers who are rather limited offensively.

Why would you trade Perk for him?  This guy has been a walking injury since college.  There's no way I would give up Perk because we just might get something out of Oden.  No way.

With our current roster makeup, it doesn't make sense to trade away players who can help us win now for players who can't.

Oden is the type of player I'd love to see the Celtics bring in from free agency (full MLE perhaps), but not via trade this season.

I think Portland make their qualifying offer ($8mil?) to Greg Oden this summer. Make him a restricted free agent. They have already invested so much time and money into him that they would be loathe to let him leave without getting anything in return for him.

I think the Blazers match an MLE offer or anything up to about $25 mil over three years but refuse to match a $50+ million offer but nobody will offer anything like that until Oden proves his fitness + performance level.

Why would anyone honestly think that Perk for Oden is a good trade? Perkins was THE best interior defensemen in the playoffs before getting injured. And with Oden's injury history, I wouldn't pay him the veteran's minimum (if that was possible). He's limited as a scorer and is practically never on the court. He was drafted in 2007 and has only played in 82 games. 82! Here is a list of his injuries/procedures he's had in the NBA:

Microfracture surgery on his right knee.
Broken left patella.
Broken wrist.
Microfracture surgery on his left knee.

Greg Oden is simply an over-hyped, injury-prone, average center. No thanks.

I certainly would take a shot at him, injuries aside.  I would not trade perk even with his current injury.  It would be great to get him at a price that is worth risk but he also might have the trailblazer bill walton curse and never be more than a backup.  Blazers can match any offer so it doesn't really seem high on list for c's.  Miami on the other hand if they could afford him that would be a big piece to what they need.  Of course with what they are paying out for their 3 "kings" they can't afford much else.

As long as I'm competing for a title, I probably don't take a chance on Oden although he is giving the Blazers about the same production as JO is giving us this year.

If he could be gotten super cheap and put at the end of the bench for awhile, maybe.  But it's not cool when a player becomes someone that is relied upon, then he gets hurt and everything has to change.

Dude looked about 35 when he entered the league not his alleged age.  I would not take a chance on him, he is Sam Bowie, the second.

That isn't taking a flyer.  That is trading your starting Center for a championship contender for a guy who has no value this year.  I don't see how this could make sense.  If our team caught some sort of black plague and our season was shot, then maybe.  And only maybe because KP is going to need a serious salary bump soon.

To say that Oden is just an average Center is just stupid. He's a phenomenal player, but he just can't stay healthy.
Look at his numbers when he was playing, dont quote me on this, but a previous poster on another blog had his stats somewhere around 20ppg, 10rpg and 3bpg. That was just a stint of 4-5 games, but his avg is still 10,8, and 3. That's just like Perks numbers except Oden gets more blocks and more points.

Last I read, Portland wasn't planning on making an offer to Oden this summer, so he should be unrestricted. And if he's smart, he'd come to a team like Boston where players have been able to rejuvenate their careers with a team oriented winning franchise.

So as much as I like Erden so far, would you rather have Erden,JO and BBD as the 3rd string Centers, or a healthy Oden?
Can't stop, Rondo!

To do that would mean the Celtics want to pay him 7+ million next year.

I don't see it.
