According to the New York Daily News, former Knick, Jared Jeffries, almost negotiated a buyout with Houston, but decided against it because the offer from the Rockets was too low.

The Rockets are over the luxury tax line by about $2.39 million, so they may once again speak with Jeffries about a buyout.

I think he would be a great fit.  He can come in and play the role of SF defender in special occasions.  (Lebron)

A guy that plays at most, 10 minutes in a game.

A better player then Wafer.

This would be absolutely outstanding.

Jeffries was surely overpaid, but he is a very solid role player off the bench at SF.  That would move Smokey Q to backup SG, where he often has a size advantage that can lead to nice post-ups.  That then moves Delonte to PG for a nice big lineup off the bench.

Perfect.

I'd pass; he doesn't offer much.  Has been a marginal and overpaid NBA player throughout his career.

He would be the best defender at SF the Celtics could have off the bench this year.

While I think it would be an interesting option, there is no chance he jumps into the rotation like that.  He would be picked up as an insurance policy in case of an injury to Daniels, but the rotation would continue with Nate, West, and Daniels.

Anyways, I don't think he is a great fit though.  In the C's system, it really kills to have a SF who can't hit the broadside of a barn.  I think Danny would hold out for someone who is a better fit for that last spot.

I'm not sure he makes sense with the roster the C's have constructed.

Never thought much of Jeffries as a stopper on the perimeter but he'd be a nice backup PF + utility player. I'd rather have him on the roster than Harangody.

Yeha but also in that story he says he'd like to go back to the Knicks. It makes a lot of sense too; D'Antoni seemed to like him, and he was one of NY's few success stories last season.

I'd certainly welcome him, but I think he's talented enough where he could find guaranteed minutes elsewhere. And I'd have to guess that PT is going to be his top priority.

Agreed.

In addition, I am more concerned about the backup big man spot.  At this point with JO likely out for the foreseeable future, and Perk out for most of the season, we have Sheed, Shaq, Baby and Erden.  Baby provides good depth when everyone is healthy, but it's not unconceivable that Sheed or Shaq will need to spend time healing from an injury at some point this year (Shaq in particular).
Celtics fan for life.

I dont see this at all. Quis, not know for his defense, is actually playing pretty good defense this year and can play the SF position nicely. Jeffries is slow especially on the perimeter. He seems like he is perminately injured as well. I went to see him play twice last year on the Knicks and he just hobbles up and down the court. I never thought of Jeffries as a defensive player at all...

Since when is Sheed on our bench?

Jeffries is one of the best defenders in the league. Picture Posey in 08 without the outside shot. Jeffries can guard 2,3 and 4.

we need him cause of a few key players we'll probably have to deal with in the playoffs.

rashard lewis - if they play him at sf, hes too big for any of our defenders, and when hes at the 4, hes too fast for any of our defenders (minus KG). jj would matchup well with him.

lamar odom - same as rashard lewis

lebron - nobody can really guard this guy, but at least lebron wont try to post him up.

if we can somehow get rid of wafer, i say we take this guy

I'd definitely take him as Marquis insurance.  He's going down eventually, we all know it.

I think Marquis' defense is slightly overrated.  He's excellent at getting deflections and is probably an above average defender, but a lot of people talk about him like he's almost Tony Allen (he's no where close).  He gets muscled around quite easily by a lot of SFs.  I'd really like us to get a more defensive guy with a little more size.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale
