Barkley said the Lakers are the best team, BY FAR,in the NBA. What a joke. They've added talent, we've added talent. We didn't have Perk and we got pounded on the boards. We barely lost. Now L.A. is by far the best? Stupid, Charles.

Maybe he hates the C's.  More likely though, he just has been watching the Lakers demolish absolutely everyone this season.

While I don't necessarily agree with his assessment, I have a hard time coming up with a very strong case against it, given just how dominant the Lakers had been (he said it before they lost their first game).

I don't think this (charles hating the C's) is true. Charles Barkely is not the only guy saying the Lakers are dominant right now. Now, whether or not you think the Lakers are "that much" better than we are is up to debate. Bynum is out for them, Perkins is out for us. We added help, they added help. At the end of the day, they haven't lost to a bad team (Cleveland), but we have..and they won a championship, and we didn't.

If anyone that is allegedly impartial says any team besides the Lakers is the best team in the NBA, they're wrong. There is nothing to support it.

Chuck has made no secret of the fact (over the years) that he doesn't care much for the Boston Celtics. In fact, he has done more to downplay the success of our team than most other four sportscasters combined.

I'll give him credit for this, though: He has a great deal of respect for Ray Allen, and he absolutely LOVES Rajon Rondo, and has been one of the first people I've heard to call him the best PG in the NBA, (and I hate giving Chuck props for anything). ;)

It's close, not "by far" either way, no matter what Chuck says.

They added a better PG, we added better bigs (we hope) and stronger guards (with West).  In the end, as with the last two Finals matchups with us and them, it may come down to health.  If that's the case, at this moment, I don't really like our chances (hello, Jermaine O'Neal, main offseason acquisition).

BTW, can't we just acknowledge that the whole "by far" thing is just a way to emphasize the point of the talking head.  I don't think Chuck really believes it is "by far", but sports talk and analysis (or just being a pundit in general) is all about exagerations.

I like Chuck and I think he really knows the game.  That was clear when he explained why Miami will struggle come playoff time.  But he's been very wrong (just like most people) on occasion. Like last night for example prior to the game he thought Miami was going to destroy Boston.  I'm not going to to lie I thought it was a daunting task and there was a slight chance of a blowout due to the fact that Boston was on road trip and Miami had just blown a big lead at home the game before.  But obviously he was epically wrong.

I'll just leave it with this.  KG is healthy there is no denying that and Rondo is even better than last year so both of those positions are upgrades and If Shaq is healthy come playoff time we will be in the Finals with a much better team than last year.

So at that point let the chips fall where they may.

Barkley has always been down on the current Celts a little bit, although I wonder if some of that is tongue in cheek.  I think he has a hard time giving props to one of the franchises that beat up on him when he was in Philly.

Barkley did say last night that Kevin McHale was the best player that ever defended him, for whatever that's worth.

Yeah, he says that about twice every year about Kevin.

I think Barkley is entertaining, but not a good analyst. Ditto Kenny Smith I thought Greg Anthony was a very good analyst, but he is no longer on TV. Of the current TV guys, I think Legler and Barry are the best. I feel they are always prepared, and quickest to pick up on a changing trend.

I think Barkley was down on the C's in large part in 07-08 because of how his Houston experiment worked out.

Now I think its because of their age and how the Lakers have won back to back titles. He's stuck on the idea that if LeBron just ran non-stop on the break he'd be unbeatable too.

He also said the Heat were gonna KILL us.

Hahaha.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Barkley also said the Heat were going to destroy (can't remember his exact words) the Celtics last night. He was eating crow for dinner!

He's said that pretty much every time we've played a LeBron lead team the past year.
