he was better off here, and was more valuable to the Celtics and played a lot more minutes than 14. ???

News: Allen was in uniform Saturday, but he did not play in the Grizzlies' win over the Kings, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reports.
Spin: This was his first DNP of the season, and it appears to just be a healthy scratch. The Grizzlies' long-term inking of Mike Conley signals Allen's services may be less-utilized than thought in the preseason. ???

He wanted out of the shadow of Pierce and Allen. Of course then he goes to a team that has Gay, Mayo, Conley, and had just drafted two guards.....

I liked Tony, but out of sight, out of mind. We won't be missing him, especially when Delonte returns.

Boneheaded move by Tony. Went from playing 10-15 minutes on a Championship team to 10 and under minutes on a borderline .500 team. He didnt like being in the shadow of Allen and Pierce but why wouldnt he go somewhere else where he could get some minutes. He knew the Grizzlies were going to be log jammed at his position. Im guessing no one else wanted to give him a contract, I know I certainly wouldnt have.

He went for the money.  For a roleplayer, money is much more important than it is to a superstar.  If he fizzles out in Memphis, he may never get another contract so he had to secure the cash when he could

I'm pretty sure the C's did not want to resign him so it wasn't really his choice to leave.  The reports of the C's not willing to match money and years is just media posturing.

We would have taken Ronnie Brewer from MEM in a S&T if they could have worked out the terms, but we weren't taking TA back.

Yeah he went to Memphis cause he thought he was going to get more playing time and have a bigger role.

You gotta think he said to himself "what did I just do?" when his own coach basically said "yeah if he signed here cause he thought he was going to play more, he's sadly mistaken"

But i agree, with delonte...I don't think we'll miss him that much anyway

He left because he is a very good athlete, but as smart as a fence post. He's not bright enough to look at the whole picture.

Because now that he's not being help back here in Boston he's blossomed into the superstar we all knew he would. :)

I would trade Marquis for him at or near the deadline. (It works in the trade checker)

Because he was a bad fit for this team... as long as Rajon Rondo is the starting PG, Tony Allen was going to struggle to get minutes. He couldn't play behind Rondo at PG (no handle) and he couldn't play next to Rondo (too little shooting in from the guards.)

Based on the offer he got - he probably expected to play more, and I'd guess they offered more than anyone else. His best hope for more minutes is that some contender with a PG that can shoot needs a bench wing near the deadline.

This was a lose, lose, lose situation.

Lets also remember, that despite what Danny says, Memphis did guarantee him more money.  They offered him slightly more money annually, but more importantly guaranteed him a third season, which reportedly the C's were not interested in doing.  For a guy like Tony, who is constantly injured, and is a microfracture away from being out of the league, that extra $3-5 million is HUGE.

He is not the type of guy who is going to make 40, 50, 100 million in his career.  He was able to close to double his previous earnings with this new contract, so even though this money is still hard for us to grasp, it is certainly significant.

So yeah, I am sure he liked the potential of a bigger role in Memphis...but this was a financial decision.
